Powerbook Clicking on Sond Out?

I've had my powerbook g4 15" since July, and I've noticed that when I plug speakers into it, I can hear a click-click-click noise and some hiss. Muting the sound on the powerbook does not fix it. Also, seeing as it only clicks when the laptop is plugged into the wall, I think maybe the headphone jack isn't grounded correctly or something. When I unplug from the wall, the hiss gets louder and the clicking goes away. Has anyone experienced this on their apple laptop?

Just a wild guess, since its plugged into the wall, could it be that the energy settings have the cpu set on the highest and its just the fans kicking in?

No. The fan comes on at 145F. It definitely isn't the fan - because it comes through the speakers or headphones.

I dont have that on my iBook... Call Apple could be something wrong with your Powerbook.

Whenever I plug anything into my headphone jack that I get a little noise through my speakers that I've always attributed as "the noise" that speakers make when making connection to the computer. Real quick, no hissing or anything...

Dunno if PowerBook related or anything, I just notice this all the time. Always thought it was normal.

If you read your manual it says turn the stereo/speakers off BEFORE you connect it to any electrical device because it will damage your speakers :rolleyes: when you connect them the sudden jump in electricity causes your stereo to make a sound because it thinks its getting music but once the Audio jack is fully in place there is no sound (unless you have bad speakers which will give you a hiss or a bad source of audio which is producing a hiss).

When you plug stuff into your stereo make sure your stereo is off it will make your speakers last longer.

The speakers are fine. I have an audiophile in the house and he certainly knows this. The speakers exhibit no hiss at all if I turn them all the way up (very nice speakers). Only once I plug the jack into the powerbook do they exhibit the noise. Without adjusting the volume, If I unplug the jack the noise disappears. Oh well, with headphones on I can't really notice it. I think these speakers are too nice to the point that they bring out noise you don't normally hear. The other thing it may be is the male-to-male mini-jack cable sitting between the speakers and the powerbook, who knows. Thanks for all the replies.

Same thing happens with headphones... don't think I can turn those off...
