Preemo
Stick with known brands. I recommend:-- TDK -- Kodak -- Verbatim I'd recommend MEMOREX and MAXELL brands as well. Never had a single coaster when burnt right. nekrosoft13
All the discs I have say 4.7GB of DATA. So Hmm. they say that but thats not true look in nero, how much you can actually burn just like when you buy a 120gb hard drive, its not 120gb, usally 112gb and about the media only good media is ritek tdk and verbatin ritek makes oem media for other companys, including maxwell and bunch more the problem is not all maxwell are ritek, sometimes you might get inferior media Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/222079-guide-dvd-recordable-formats/page/2/#findComment-584629751 Share on other sites
Liquid
I'd recommend MEMOREX and MAXELL brands as well. Never had a single coaster when burnt right. I have had 2 coasters of Maxell and 1 of Memorex. I'll stick with the brands I have tried and I know are good. I forgot to add Ritek, tahnks for reminding me Nekrosoft, I will update my guide too let people know about the disc size. Tomi
Memorex is also a good brand. ;) Great guide. I always wondered what the diff between - and + was. [the real definition, not the definition the guy at future shop told me "+ is latest technology.."] Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/222079-guide-dvd-recordable-formats/page/2/#findComment-584630270 Share on other sites

kaptain chump
can you overburn a dvd? why would these dvd discs say 4.7 if they really cant write 4.7 gb woth of data? false advertising anyone? Viserov
^ The same reason why a 120GB hard drive really isn't 120GB. Flawed rounding. So, which is better: Dual Layer or Double Sided? ROM3000
This is a great guide. Summerizes everything very nicely. Thanks I have one question though. I have some TDK 4x DVD+R discs which I have been burning DVD on them at 1x and 2x. So far I haven't had any coasters, thankfully, but I wanted to know if I should increase my write rate up to 4x for a better quality burn. I had put it at 1x, because with CD-Rs I noticed that you can get skips and pops in song if you burn to quick. I assumed that it would also be better to burn slower on a DVD aswell. Could someone please clear this up for me, please. Thanks. Oh and one more thing, do I need to have a dual layer burning drive to burn DVD-DL? I currently have one that burns one layer I guess. ncoday
TDK is a good brand. As long as you have a good DVD burner (Plextor, Sony, NEC), I would set the burning speed at the max, 4x Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/222079-guide-dvd-recordable-formats/page/2/#findComment-585411437 Share on other sites
