Brand of DVD's actually don't matter. HP, TDK e.t.c do not make the discs. All come from other companies over seas. Any big name brands, like Memorex, Sony, TDK, HP, e.t.c are ussally the lowest quality discs out made by CMC. You can use a program by the name of DVD Identifier to tell you what your discs are. There are 2 companies that I use now.

1. Taiyo Yuden

2. Ritek.

Taiyo Yuden has the best quality hands down. 600 blanks, and no coasters. I bought a cheap spindal of WinData DVD's becasue i needed to transfer some files, and they turned out to be Taiyo's.

You'll never know untill you buy them if you buy them in stores. I've had one spindal of TDK turn out to be Taiyo, but the rest were cmc. So your best bet is to order online. You can get Taiyo's for around 30 bucks USD for 100 8x.

Fit software can i use to check the real manfucturer of the disc? ive heard nero can do it, is it true?
