danbalsh
.Mac has now been updated to 250MB of iDisk storage :D and the bonus is we can decide how much of that 250MB we want to use for Email, and how much we want to use for iDisk. Also the size of attachments has gone up to 10MB. Not a bad update overall. (GMail trolls, need not respond) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/223940-mac-updated/ Share on other sites
Bling3k12
Awesome! Now they need to bump that up to 500MB and we'll be set! :p Regardless, a good update from the 100MB we used to have. SumoHamster
Is the .Mac account actually worth it? I am a new Switcher and despite reading the description on the .Mac page, I don't quite see the benefits of having it except for backing things up/transferring data or having a static email address. I am a new Switcher and despite reading the description on the .Mac page, I don't quite see the benefits of having it except for backing things up/transferring data or having a static email address. To me .Mac is more than worth it. Remember what your getting - @mac.com email address / iChat AV Screename - 250MB of iDisk/Email storage - iSync (view your Address Book from any internet computer) - iCal Calendar Sharing - Apple Backup software (this is very good software) - iPhoto *one click website hosting* - Great Homepage templates - Virex Virus Scanner (with updates for as long as your a member) - Norton Parental Controls (to keep parents off the internet  ) - Excellent support, should you need it. - Custom iCards (yes kinda silly but hey) - .Mac Member benefits, such as SkyWalker sound effects, WingNuts (free game) - Free VersionTracker Pro Subscription (worth $24) Well worth the asking price, IMHO Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/223940-mac-updated/#findComment-584644725 Share on other sites
SumoHamster
Concerning the Apple Backup software... Is that something that is limited to backing up to your iDisk storage, or can it be used to backup to an external hard drive? (like the Western Digital Media Center) *edit: Nevermind - Looking at the .Mac FAQ, I see my question answered :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/223940-mac-updated/#findComment-584644839 Share on other sites

Steve
Does nobody think this is kinda too late? - GMail: - 1000 MB e-mail storage. - Cost: $0 - Maximum message size: 10MB Hotmail: - 2000 MB e-mail storage - Cost: $20/year - Maximum message size: 20MB MacOSX.com Mail & Web: - 1000 MB e-mail storage - 500 MB web space - Cost: $30/year - Maximum message size: Unlimited Apple .Mac Mail & Web: - 250 MB e-mail storage (minus whatever is used for web space) - web space: whatever is left after e-mail storage - Cost: $100/year - Maximum message size: 10 MB ...There's Spymac services also which includes WebDAV access for iCal hosting. How do you guys justify such a sum of money for the 'service' of .Mac? Surely Homepage / One Click iPhoto publising (Pre configured styles?) isn't really worth that much to us? Address Book on the go? Well if you're using a Webmail service, you surely have this anyhow? For me i update my Address book and then just sync it will my Gmail Contacts via a .csv file. I am intrigued... Anyone who's a member of .Mac, share the wealth... fuzzy_logic
$100 a year is way too expensive  ... Even with the educational discount, it's still a **** load of money... My school provides me with a 100mb email account plus 2gb storage so I don't think I'll get .Mac anytime soon... MacOSX.com... Don't get me started on them... no amount of free ANYTHING could make me like anything from that site. Spymac... they were good at first until they became obsessed with profit. I got .Mac because it was $69 with purchase of a new Mac. I love being able to sync all my bookmarks, iCals, Contacts, iPhoto Albums and all that with one click ease of use to the .Mac servers... that's why you buy a Mac, ease of use, this is just an extension upon it. Plus, the Backup software is great and you do get some good freebies or deals for being a .Mac member. Plus with Tiger coming out and it's new SyncServices, I can only imagine what we'll be able to sync through our .Mac accounts! Just a few reasons why I got .Mac. macman87
I wonder why Apple isn't offering syncing settings in Tiger via Rendezvous.
