Tzup guys! I spent yesterday making a grey color scheme for JustTally and when I finished I was so pleased with the style that I decided to make it a standalone theme "Retractor" (cos of the retracting curve). I ran outa weed so its not creative like ChaNinja or TallyHawk but I've used bits from both. Its light grey, very clean and should appeal to all you Sosumi/Mercury/Classic users.

I've tried to make it as bug free as possible, it even looks cool using double-size taskbars. I haven't done Large Fonts so till then use normal fonts. Some of the graphics are still a bit rough.

Gimme comments please! (and bug reports)

Hmmm... These are some things I think that are not cool:

X Box "X". I guess it is fine because of the style of "minimize" and "maximize".

The curve.

Fat title bar.

Rounded-looking title bar. They have been way overdone.

Cool:

The task buttons.

The Start menu.

Tabs. :p

The Start button curve is ok, but the other curves don't look right.

This is what I find myself doing past 3 days:

1. Come home from work.

2. Eat.

3. Get on computer.

4. Check out ThemeXP.ORG

5. No cool+new style(s)... damn *grumble*

6. Swing to Neowin.NET, check out customizing XP forum...

7. See a thread post by ChaNinja... *YES!*

8. New theme...!

9. Whoohoo! Theme stays... till another great work is out :)

So ya, great work I say. I'll let you know if I notice anything, i.e bugs or what's not cool, etc.

As of now, I am lovin' it. ;)

I'll like to add, unlike kennisonxgs, I like the X and the curves. It's different from other people's work. Also the notification button is great too.

One thing I noticed about it is that when you have a file hilighted, say on the desktop, it looks kinda washed out and a little jaggy around dark edges. It could just be because I'm using a dark wallpaper though (from Chaninja theme), and maybe it'd look ok on a light grey wallpaper. Just my $0.02, oh god of theming

guess u don`t read threads

here`s what i wrote in 3 of ur other posts

(btw, i think retractor is not as good as the ones before, just my opinion)

CHANINJA CHANINJA CHANINJA CHANINJA CHANINJA CHANINJA CHANINJA :::::::

damn it man

every time i post my post, chaninja went on to start a new thread and forget about his last thred

can u read this, CHANINJA :::

no wonder u didn't reply my msg in the thread silver wing and cha ninja 3.1 jts

u renamed ur theme

here is some problems i have with chaninja (which applies to tally hawk in many cases):

1. Chaninja- can u fix the explorer side bar error for ppl that turned on other language for non-unicode program in the regional, language option in control panel

i think from rc 1.5 and up i see this error

u mentioned the error some time ago and u said u will fix it

(In tally hawk, u didn't skin it- i think u know that..and i guess that's why it is in beta)

2. i think many ppl said this too- top right hand corner- the close, minimze, buttons- way too large...they dont' fit (probably cuz i m using 120dpi)?

i wrote this b4: unlike many other visual styles by other authors, if i use "large fonts", or change to 120 dpi in display setting, ur visual styles messed up badly...

plz correct these bugs (this apply to chaninja)

3. The start menu- why is it like that?...the line doesn't go straight? (i mean like the line separating the left side of the start menu and the right side)

(guess u won't understand what i mean here- too bad neowin won't let me upload pcis)...

but overall......ur skins are very nice- u are very creative!

4. what about considering making the icons go inside (cutout effect) for mouseover effect like the theme Quasar, it looks rather nice

Hermit! Really sorry for not replying sooner. Can you describe the non-unicode error a bit more, and maybe email me a screenshot (make it small please) of the startmenu bug (which theme is it btw?). I'll have a look at Quasar when I get home.

I'm loving Retractor already however I use TallyHawk black at night. I'm eager to make a shell32 for Retractor but I doubt I'll have the time to make a full icon set so please tell me what icons you think suit it the best so that I can start making the shell32 & other dll hacks. I'd also appreciate some Wallpaper recommendations.

I like this theme but still i like tallyhawk more! I like those round buttons where the icons are in but from the justtally theme i like that curve on the titlebar more then the wing! And the minimze maximize close buttons! I hope you will do something with that theme again in the future. ;)

Whackboy! :D :D :D :D Welcome back man! I almost filed a missing Neowinian report on yo ass! So you like my new styles?! Which ones your fav?

Yeah I could def use some help with the shellstyles. I've almost completed the Retractor one, but I think I've made a bug. Maybe you can help, I'll give more info on a new thread when I upload my work (tonight sometime).

About the sound file, thanks for 'Reprazenting'. Kidrocky7 had me feeling like a 'freak' for awhile there! :p

btw

Any idea what happened to Olog Hai? He disappeared about the same time you did and I haven't heard from him since.

Later!

    • Was it too much to ask to show the icon in this article?
    • Frankly, I blame whoever is writing such articles. "A big improvement/update and/or new feature is now available to everyone! Also, use this unofficial tweak tool to enable it because it actually isn't available to you yet officially and might not in fact even be entirely ready or whatever, hence why it is perhaps not enabled for you*. But it's great and you should enable it!" I mean there's nothing wrong with sharing info about some feature you might need to enable via unofficial means, of course. It's just that these articles tend to essentially end up being two news pieces in one, and one of them tends to be a bit misleading. (*Yes, yes, the "it's a controlled rollout!" thing. Not a fan of that one either. The argument, not the actual rollout.)
    • Thank you. Will do. I read in the release notes that editor config might be at play here.
    • Actually, I think even Microsoft doesn't know how to control it
    • OpenAI is making Codex more useful in Chrome and the cloud by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI's Codex now has more than 5 million users, up nearly 4x from earlier this year. To further accelerate Codex's growth among developers, OpenAI today announced that it has agreed to acquire Ona, a company that builds secure cloud execution and orchestration technology for developers. Ona will enable developers to run Codex with persistent and controlled cloud infrastructure for long-running agentic workflows. Right now, most Codex execution happens locally on developers' laptops and PCs, and the agents work continuously for hours. Through Ona, OpenAI aims to make Codex agents keep working for days without being tied to a user’s local machine or an active session. This will be an important capability for enterprises that want to deploy AI agents in production while maintaining control over infrastructure, data, security boundaries, credential scope, logging, and review workflows. Like any acquisition, the deal is still subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Until the deal closes, OpenAI and Ona will continue to operate as separate companies. After closing, Ona’s team will join the Codex team to improve developer workflows. Alongside the Ona acquisition announcement, OpenAI today introduced a few Codex updates. Developers can now save Codex rate limit resets and use them later instead of losing them when they are not needed immediately. OpenAI is also adding a referral option where users can invite a friend to Codex and get a saved rate limit reset. OpenAI today also announced a developer mode for browser use in Chrome and the Codex in-app browser. With this mode, Codex can use the Chrome DevTools Protocol to debug web apps, inspect pages, and work more directly with browser-based development workflows. Developers can use this when they want Codex to profile JavaScript, inspect console output and network traffic, examine web page states including the DOM and applied styles, and more.
