Logitech MX1000

Recommended Posts

hi all, im really interested in this mouse but have a few questions,

i know i need the base sation for charging the mouse but would i be able to hook that up to my pc and just use the mouse on my mac, and then charge the mouse at its station on my pc at night?

how big is it? it looks quite meaty! compared to a intellimouse explorer?

are the buttons programable? i.e i would have a back and forward button for finder and firefox, and a button for expose etc, is this doable from the driver? i saw in another post that you cannot do this? but you can download logitech control center and remap?

ta

1. logitech's mice are quite beefy... but not over-done. i have a mx700, and it feels sturdy and solid in my hand.

2. i think the mx1000 is bluetooth, so yes. just pair it with os x's built-in bluetooth setup assistant, and you can use the mouse as you wish.

3. logitech has a preference panel that allows you to set the buttons how you like... i don't use it, so i can't say much about it.

If you have a smaller hand, I wouldn't recommend getting the MX1000 since it is pretty big. I have the MX700, which is pretty much the same size (like oik said), and it is a decent sized mouse for any hand.

Just go to circuit city or somewhere that would have it show cased and use it for a few minutes.

I use this. It's called Logitech Control Center. There are some nice options for setting buttons. Just make sure if you use Expose that it still does what you expect after loading LCC - I seem to remember having to change a couple of the mappings that LCC assigned by default to what Expose was expecting.

thanks for the replies, size wise i dont mind, ive got large hands ;) my main concers is the base station, i dont want to be carrying the base station around with me, im under the assumption that it is only for charging the mouse as it will communicate with my powerbook via bluetooth? so my question is...can i hook the mouse base station to my pc and charge it on that at night, or i could hook up the base station to my mac at night and charge it too? basically does the base station have to be plugged in for the mouse to work, im expecting it doesnt but im just making sure before i go out and spend ?55 quid on one

cheers

If you had read the replies you would now know it is not a Bluetooth mouse but it uses infrared!

This means you CAN'T use it without the dockingstation.... period. Not on a PC and not on a Mac. You need the dockingstation for it to communicate with the computer.

i have this mouse.

it is neither bluetooth or infrared, it uses fast RF technology (radiowaves).

you need the basestation for it to work, as it also acts as the receiver, and the buttons can be configured to do either a select list of functions, or any keyboard combo (ctrl+s for example)

that said, it is without doubt the best mouse i have ever used. i can sign my signature perfectly in paintbrush.

    • Yes for me, I installed 'old calculator' (Windows 7 calculator) in its place since it is more useful to me. I think paint is the only one I left installed
    • eh I'll wait for the June 2026 MVS ISO downloads which should be coming out next Tuesday June 16 and possibly contain build 8655 instead of 8653
