I am trying to Slipstream a DELL OEM XP Home CD with AutoStreamer.

I know you usually can't use a DELL OEM XP CD so I hvae tried using the "Windows share" option.

I have deleted the SVCPACK Folder from I386 & when I copy the I386 Folder to the "Windows share" Folder & then use AutoStreamer to select the "Windows share" Folder I get Run-time Error 5.

Can you tell me what your software is checking to produce this Error.?

Thanks

first, use version 1.0.30 (AutoStreamer Official Thread - 1.0.30)

next:

AutoStreamer when given a share path (i.e C:\MYSHARE) checks the following:

1. There must be a SETUP.EXE in the share path (i.e C:\MYSHARE\SETUP.EXE)

2. There must be a I386 folder in the share path (i.e C:\MYSHARE\I386)

3. There must not be an UPDATES subfolder in I386 (i.e C:\MYSHARE\I386\UPDATES)

4. There must be a NTOSKRNL.EX_ in the I386 path (i.e C:\MYSHARE\I386\NTOSKRNL.EX_)

If all those complete successfully, AutoStreamer unpacks NTOSKRNL.EX_ to a temporary folder and get its version (NTOSKRNL.EX_ is just a packed version of NTOSKRNL.EXE). Thus you will see the build...

If step 1 fails, you will see build: unknown

If step 2 fails, you will see build: unknown

If step 3 fails, you will see build: unsupported OEM

If step 4 fails, you will see build: unknown

Just checked my DELL OEM I386 Folder & it only has a NTOSKRNL.EXE file , which if I Right Click on it shows only "Copy" & "Extract" , so it seems to now its a compressed file.

Did a Search for ntos on the I386 Folder & it shows NTOSKRNL.EXE (uncompressed) & NTOSKRNL.EXE (compressed).

Mahaged to Copy compressed file to Desktop & was then able to Rename to NTOSKRNL.EX_ & Copy back to I386 Folder.

Used "Windows share" & it worked , however it didn't delete the Temp Folder \............. it created in the Volume I was using for "Windows share" Folder & also the SP1 file XPSP1A.EXE.

It also updated the "Windows share" Folder , annoying as I got a corrupted file message when I tried the CD I burnt from the ISO file.

So I created a new "Windows share" Folder & now when I select the Service Pack file it eventually says "Build:Share is already updated".???? which it isn't.

Tried re-starting Computer , but same message.?

When using Windows share, it treats it as a share, not a temp folder... that's why it doesnt delete it... if the share was on a network, how would people like AS to delete it!? Share=a place where installation files are kept for client needs.

What does it detect when you pick the new share?

What does it detect when you pick the new share?

Windows share:

Operating System: Windows XP Family

Build: 5.1.2600.1149 (Pre-SP2)

I have also tried Deleting "AutuStreamer" & re-install , but still get same message

"Share is allready updated".

I use Service Pack SP1a CD file XPSP1A.EXE , it worked the 1st time.

Perhaps "AutoStreamer" keeps a Flag somewhere , but checked the Registry for autostreamer & can't see any , or is there an AutoStreamer Log/Text file.?

Also have to use "Windows share" option because I have OEM DELL XP CD & "AutoStreamer" doesn't dectect this XP CD because it doesn't have file ntoskrnl.ex_ , it has file ntoskrnl.exe (a compressed file) so I copy the XP CD to Windows share folder & add ntoskrnl.ex_

Doesn't have an I386\UPDTES Folder is has I386\SVCPACK Folder & worked before.?

Can't created an ISO only (Copy) of OEM DELL XP CD because of ntoskrnl.ex_ check , would work if "AutoStreamer" only checked for a file of name ntoskrnl

if it detects 5.1.2600.1149 (Pre-SP2), then of course SP1A will not work... 5.1.2600.1149 (Pre-SP2) is the version of your NTOSKRNL.EX_ Where did you get that file anyway? Since it wasnt on your CD?

OK thanks.

I also have XP Professional + SP1a on my Computer & when I had to created another "Windows share" Folder of my OEM DELL XP CD I used Search on my XP Pro+SP1a for file ntoskrnl.exe , copyied it to Desktop & changed the name to ntoskrnl.ex_ , then added it to "Windows share" Folder I386.

Now using the OEM DELL XP file ntoskrnl.exe & its works OK again.
