Well I'll reserve judgment till the game comes out. But I don't hold much hope for the multiplayer.

If it still has the awful netcode complete from the beta, I'll stick to CoD:UO.

If it still has the missing textures and script problems missing from the "beta" I'll stick to another game too.

,Oct 1 2004, 00:10] told you all some time ago, this game will be so frigging amazing that everyone its going to forget the delay.

I completely disagree, I think everyone will be very underwhelmed. Crappy gfx + old multiplayer + overused and not realistic physics.

I agree. Look at how bad Doom3 was compared to its hype, and yet plenty folks loved it. Imagine how people are going to get with HL2. I mean just by playing CsS I am really amazed with its engine/capability. (yes i agree the netcode does need work) Awesome non-the-less. It just doesnt seem to have that repetitiveness that so brought Doom3 down. Everything else pretty much speaks to itself as we've seen throughout the year with screenies and movies. It's definitely a win/win situation. The delay will be long forgotten on release day.

with the increasing graphics of games the multiplayer functionality becomes harder and harder to manage, netcode becomes crucial as well as client side funtionality. soon eveyone will need a dedicated t1 just to play a game with out lag. HL2 and CS:S better get the game play right or there will be hell to pay. graphics only go so far, gameplay is the onlything that can keep it going, game manufacturers need to get that through their heads.

Heck, I'm not exactly awaiting this game desperately....but even I know when to be impressed.

It's one thing I didn't give that much thought: Good design can overcome a dated engine :pinch: (the dated-ness of the engine is under question, though)

...doesn't look dated at all to me

You do know it's the same netcode that CS/TFC/DOD etc all use right now right?

I mean seriously the game looks great, Engine has been in the process for one more year than expected .. who cares stop being such graphic ###### anyways i mean the game still looks great... The gameplay is what makes it shine. Like half life 1 is still played till this day like its been out 7 years or so? I just think that this game will have a huge dedicated gamer community the mods are already being made it'll be cool..

Not realistic physics... Well screw the fact the aliens arent really on earth really..and screw the fact that this is not nonfiction.. lets all complain about the fact that hell...GMAN doesn't really exsist!

Then... then all those nightmares I have about the Gman couldn't be real? :o

heh what i am saying is that this dude is focussing on the fact that the physics arent as real as he wants it to be... but would the game really be fun if gordan couldnt do the big jumps and **** that he does?

And i thought they are using good physics anyways..... havoc engine they're using i think?

,Oct 1 2004, 03:05] well, obviously you know better games, so you are good on your own

Some people just don't get it. Good games are good games, and we most certainly know Half Life 2 will be a good game. It's as simple as that.

Anyone can see how it doesn't match up to some other games in certain areas, but what really matters is the overall package. Half Life 2 will deliver. I am completely confident in that.

you're as optimistic as you were before the DOOM3 launch, I'm surea fter it's lauched there'll be tons of ppl bitching it sucked, thats why games that come out of nowhere are usually loved

IMHO Doom3 just plain rocks, tha gfx are awesome and i find the gameplay really good, the sound is also awesome and the story is kinda cool, I'd give it about a 9.7 - 9.8

If only they'd remake the original Deus Ex with the Doom3 engine... 10++

Crappy gfx + old multiplayer + overused and not realistic physics.

Perhaps the word is "dated" instead of crappy for the graphics. It was revolutionary a year ago, but now the only new thing it's really offering is character detail. I agree on the multiplayer, but the physics I make a stand on. Havok is about as real time physics engines get, and when done right can really contribute to a game's atmosphere (Max Payne 2, for example)

    • EA reached out to our reporter that mainly does gaming content and reviewed loads of other games, why would this be shocking to anyone? I admit maybe we were considered this time around because of the extra coverage UFC was getting and they wanted a broader audience for this release? IDK. I can tell you that we aren't paid to do the reviews, the fun part of it is (mostly) being able to keep what we review and giving an honest opinion on what we're reviewing.
