aren't those chaninja icons?

The in the start menu are for screenshot purposes. The theme came with My PC, My Docs, Network places, IE, and full and empty bins, in 4 colors.

nice too...

Ive stopped downloading from ThemeXP a long time ago but when i was downloading there i never found anything of this quality.

Give the guy a break.

why not use his own icons in the start menu? from here it looks like he's trying to sell the chaninja icons along with his theme.

no, just using them, the icons featured on the desktop are mine.

Just to clarify. :)

Thank you to those of you providing positive feedback.

OK, thought I would jump on the bandwagon here. First of all, yes, I have my styles on ThemeXP (along with thousands of other authors). No, I do not own ThemeXP, I work for FileSubmit.com (they own ThemeXP) maintaining the forums and doing submission approvals. That is my enitre capacity at the site. Do I like what they are doing? No, I do not, and I am slowly trying to change things for the better I hope. In a few days there will be a subscription based site for downloading files that are not wrapped. It will be $10.00 a year for 1,000 downloads. This was an idea submitted by users, so do not think it was my idea or anyone's at FileSubmit. I do however support the subscription site idea if it keeps SpyWare and AdWare out of the downloads, and the money is used to support the site itself.

We are (or should all be) professionals here, the works of vStyler (Winswy) are of excellent quality, and neither he nor I are 'Minimalistic' stylers. If you want to see a beautiful piece of work, just look at the upcoming 'Gizmo' theme at my site if you care to visit. This style is indeed a work of art, complete with mouseover animations and superb colors.

I very seldom come to NeoWin, mainly for just these types of reasons, the bickering, name calling and lack of professional attitude is more than one can take. I will stay in my own little world where decency and integrity are honored.

As far as vStyler selling his work, more power to him! I have begun doing the same myself, bandwidth and keeping a site up aren't cheap! The way I figure it, I have a right to make a few bucks off my hard work also, and no one out there has the right to tell me anything different, period!

Enough said, now back to the 'real world of art', because I certainly have never found any here. :(

umm..wanna name the "half the people in the thread" that I flamed" ?

although i am not a "skinner", i do consider myself an artist to an extent. your points are very good ones and i whole heartledly agree. i like the looks of his work there, but i would not use it personally. if i wanted it bad enough, i would be more than willing to help a "kindred spirt" out though. he made a point of telling us why he is selling it in his initial post and that should have been the key for some, but the complaints still came. why?!?! anymore these days people just want everything free and when they can't get it free, they get ****ed and find ways to steal it. there's got to be a happy medium. i've spent many hours in front of my computer making sig banners, site banners and such for free for friends. sometimes i do wonder if i should have charged atleast a small feee for my work. i say sell away if you can!!!

any one that said they don't want to pay or they don't like the style. Just be kind. More people might then consider about making a donation for the vs. Maybe like 5 instead of 10, etc...

Thank you to those of you providing positive feedback.

How about everyone that said they didn't like it, etc....?

You could at least said something. You might also want to do donation and give people out the vs if they donate like 3 or more

@ lillitnn92 could NOT have said that better, im willing to bet the people here complaining that have jobs wouldnt dig ditches, hammer nails or admin a system or two for free, so why should it be so different for those working hard on their graphics? Sure there may be better free themes but i always get more satisfaction from paying for something myself than getting it free. and seriously folks is 10 bucks that much to ask if its something that u want. i know in the past ive paid for windowblinds themes and felt very good about getting some quality work and helping support the artist themselves. As i posted from the beginning, if u disagree or dont find the style visually appealing then so be it but give us out here struggling the oppurtunity to advance ourselves with our work.

Im not looking for donations or handouts, its priced that way because i think it has that much value for the labor i have put forward to make it.

Thankyou for that suggestion tho. and to anyone i may have offended unknowingly (except for wing) accept my apologies.

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes and even bigger man to laugh at that man.

:p

Have to add my two cents here. First of all I would have no problem whatsoever paying for a theme that I truly enjoyed. I don't think I would buy this particular theme, but that is beside the point. You obviously have put a lot of work into it and deserve to be rewarded.

I myself am in a similar situation, actually two situations in which I create things and give them away. I play in a band and create music that is free to download off of our site. I hope to someday make music in the industry, but I realize the chances of that. I also know what it's like to pour your heart and soul into something artistic. It's a labor of love for sure but I sure would like to give up my day job eventually.

I'm also a member of the dev team for e107 (which the lightstar.com site runs (Y) ). And give my time and limited coding talents to this project, also freely.

So anyway my point is that if you don't agree with what Winswy is doing, then by God don't buy the theme. Hit the little back button and get on to flaming somewhere else.

Well said chavo! Would you mind emailing me on an e107 matter? Thanks! :)

if you like it, then buy it. if you don't then don't buy it. simple as that. if you have a problem with paying for themes, then go download the better free themes you find elsewhere.

i personally prefer the standard windows classic look... but im not bashing the artist for it... damn.

You summed up 90+% of the Neowin userbase in that one sentence. It's a shame because this used to be a friendlier site. Too bad more people don't get banned.

Anyway, it's a nice vs. Not my style either, but most skins and themes aren't my style. You have every right to sell it, but people also have every right to not agree with the selling of themes. You shouldn't be flamed for selling the theme. That should be against the rules here, but it's not and people just run their mouths because they know they won't get a beating like they would if they talked as much in real life. There are some "famous" WindowBlinds skinners who put out crap and then sell it and this theme is definitely better than most of their stuff.

    • These features described above are good, but far from what developers will like the most. The main feature that developers will care and love the most it's called "Bring Your Own Models". It gives us the ability to connect to LOCAL AI models running on Ollama. The feature it's located on GitHub Copilot tab -> On the model picker where you can select "manage models" instead of paid models and then it will show you the "Bring your own models" window where you can now select Ollama and the endpoint of your local server. So if you have a beefy spec machine you can now use your own model 100% local inside Visual Studio 2026 18.7.0
    • Microsoft Teams is getting a controversial location tracking feature that users may hate by Usama Jawad Image generated with Microsoft Copilot Earlier this year, Microsoft planned to roll out a controversial location tracking feature in Teams, but following customer feedback, it decided to delay its release. The bad news is that the company has decided to launch it later this year, but it's based on roughly the same design that was shared earlier, which means that many users still have good reason to worry. Basically, Microsoft Places and Teams have received workplace check-ins via Wi-Fi. The idea is that if an employee arrives at the office and connects to their enterprise network, their profile status indicator will show them as being present in the office. For example, if you arrive at work, open Teams on your PC, and connect to the "Studio B" company Wi-Fi network, your Teams profile will indicate that you are present in "Studio B", as shown below: Microsoft says that this feature is basically a replacement for physical workplace check-in peripherals, it reduces the need to manually update your status, and it also enables co-workers to know that you're at work so that they can coordinate in-person meetings with you. IT admins can enable this workplace check-in capability at a tenant level, and users have the ability to control whether they want to enable it or not. Of course, all of that sounds great on paper, but naturally, many Teams customers may still have concerns, as they did before. This is because it enables your reporting manager and other members of the organization to track if you are at the office, when you arrive at the office, and where you are right now. This could be problematic for people who work in what they consider to be flexible work environments or hybrid setups, and this kind of location tracking could be considered an invasion of privacy. Microsoft has tried to alleviate some of these concerns by letting users know that they can manually set their location easily, which essentially overrides workplace check-in if they feel uncomfortable with it. However, that doesn't really solve the problem because your organization could enforce a workplace policy that mandates that this feature remains enabled. The Redmond tech giant has also assured users that this capability does not store historical data and is only a real-time indicator of location. Finally, it only generates a signal when you connect to a corporate network, which means that if you are working from home and connect your PC to your personal Wi-Fi, it won't broadcast your location to your employer; you will simply be shown as "Remote". Microsoft has encouraged IT admins to prepare for this change and begin informing users so they know what to expect once it begins rolling out later this year.
    • Wow, Microsoft IS cooking lately... This only shows that they COULD improve, they just chose not to for whatever reasons. That obsession with AI was destroying them from the inside out.
