Possible Spoiler in whiteout quote

If my memory is correct from the leaked beta the alien slave can speak English but sounds a little funny

Thank god it looks a lot less plastic-y and corridor-ish than Doom 3.

One of the things that bothered me about Doom 3 was the lack of outdoor areas (except the occasional small bit of Mars surface with no oxygen) and endless corridors. Seems like Half-Life 2 will make up for this! The screenshot above with the high-rise flats and the pylons, and the screenshots in the streets really look the business.

"This is the one unmissable game. It's time to get that cutting-edge PC system. Sell your grandmother, remortgage the cat, do whatever you have to do, just don't miss-out."

-bYtE,Oct 1 2004, 08:37] Not really, a true gamer would go for good gameplay, something Doom 3 doesn't have..

Spoken like a true fanboy.

Doom 3 has it's merits, like Painkiller it's a balls out braindead shooter. Which is all about killing nothing else, it's a good laugh while doesn't have that much replay ability. But as long you ignored the hype you'd know thats what they were aiming for.

Is there actually a release date for Half-Life 2 now?

Doom3... ...it's a good laugh while doesn't have that much replay ability.

On the contrary, I really enjoyed playing it a second time armed with a BFG, blowing the crap out of all the creatures that gave me grief the first time round! :D

Not to mention the refresh-ness of the mods, only to be compounded further with the impending release of an SDK

We're hearing unconfirmed information from Eurogamer that release dates have been set for Half-Life 2. Whereas the reports confirm the general consensus that the game would be released in November, in my opinion, parts of the information doesn't sound accurate:

The long, drawn-out Half-Life 2 release date saga appears to be drawing to a close at long last, with Vivendi-Universal Games' expected to formally announce a November 26th release date for Europe, with US gamers getting the game three days earlier on November 23rd.

With Valve often discussing the game shipping simultaneously worldwide and the fact that not even Valve themselves have the date yet, makes me all very cynical of this information, however, if it is indeed true then let the countdown begin!

UPDATE: With more and more sites reporting on this story, including statements from their own sources, it seems more and more likely that I will end up eating my words. Here's a few different perspectives:

So each time people says Doom 3 isn't a quality game in many ways they are fanboys

The only merit it has is graphics
But as long you ignored the hype you'd know thats what they were aiming for.

I totally ignored the hype. I peronally think Id aimed totally wrong. After 3-4 hours the game was already old for me. Haven't touched it since the day I bought it.

With Half Life 2 it seems Valve have done it again. Can they do the same with HL3?

I think we can naturaly assume you are a fanboi with the Sig and avatar. But you like to twist my words so for your sake yes everyone is a fanboi

Doom 3 has it's merits, graphics (which beat HL2 with a stick imo), it's a good scare at times- admitidly they get a bit obvious but it is a remake, not groundbreaking like STALKER. Not to mention it's a braindead shooter, we all need a break some times.

It's not that I'm saying HL2 will be bad. Hell no. It may well be better than Doom 3 (I am quite sure about that), it's just the constant slagging of doom 3 by HL2 fanbois (who, haven even played the finished game yet) which is ****ing me off. For example see below:

With Half Life 2 it seems Valve have done it again.

ON TOPIC:

I'm not sure if it was mentioned in PC Gamer, but the CE edition will not be coming out in the UK. I've asked VU and they have said it will only be for the US.

how will it look on my 1,5 ghz 256 ram geforce fx 5200 128? im deceding to buy a ati 9800 pro 128 mb for my 1,5 pc what do you guys think????

Frankly? Ugly, CS:S is very CPU intensive. With HL2 on the same engine I can't see it running very well at all.

    • Do you live in the U.K? Do any of the people here that are against the UK leaving the E.U, live in the U.K? If not then why are you bothered? If you do live here then it is a different thing . Brexit was a good idea, should have done it years before, it was done badly, but the idea was good. You are saying the same thing as remainers do, oh we did what Putin wanted, we listened to the lies and Farage. I hate Farage and never believed most of what he said, certainly did not believe the £350m a week for the NHS. But we did pay a lot of money to the E.U and yes some of it came back, but what is the point of paying it out for only some of it to come back? Get out of the E.U, no money to them and in theory we can use the money to do things in the country. I said in theory, but our governments are a total and complete waste of space. No matter what colour rosette they wear. You and others say it was a mistake and yet the two main parties in the U.K are not looking at rejoining the EU, I wonder why that is? I was not tricked by anyone. Makes no odds now, we are out and have been for 10 years, what we need is a decent government to run the country. All they do is shout at each other like a load of kids and seems to do nothing and make this country more into a police and nanny state. Getting more like China all the time.

    • Yeah... The root of my comment, ostensibly, is how to spin the story via the actual technical merits of the solution! * Decentralized (aka federated) solution with built-in encrypted ephemeral message transport, * Transport via Relays (intermediary servers) with no message archival, * Second configurable pathway are actual email servers (if DNS records are programmed accordingly) via IMAP protocols carriage, * "Chat-over-Email" is the design pattern adopted; it can either leverage full-blown Email Server (must use the INBOX folder) to exchange all received messages/edits/reactions (so be weary of notifications overloads) [best practice is creating a separate email acct used explicitly for federated chat purposes!] or leverage its built-in Relay Server mechanism which actually resides on-device (by default but can be configured otherwise), * By virtue of be a decentralized/federated model, all other intermediary servers who may pass-along messages (while the recipient's final relay/device is inaccessible) cannot snoop on the messages due to the encrypted nature of contents. The intermediaries may, however, analyze the metadata due to the simple fact that routing mechanisms require hints for relay destinations. Unfortunately, whomever is posting about DeltaChat across socials are misleading with "zero metadata" claims -- especially when the Relays (according to their own technical documents) mandate the addition of chat-version metadata and other decorations in order to actually transport any message. -- Based on this summary, I'd prefer if they'd better dual-path message transport (email server add-in, federated relay engine) rather than patch-on email protocols to existing federated social media frameworks. They're frankensteining something rather than extending widely-deployed technology stacks.
    • Decentralized search result anonymization...
    • Russia invaded Crimea, so not sure what you are getting at. Are you saying that the E.U is like what the USSR was? What is wrong with wanting control over your own country? i bet Trump would not stand by and allow Canada to control the U.S.
