If you have an AVI file, or some other form of a movie that is compatible with media player, I need you to open it up and play the movie in full screen. Once it is playing I need you to hit the windows KEY (the one between the ALT and CTRL keys)+ D to minimize the screen. Now try to maximize the screen? Does it work?

For me the results have always been that is maximizes back to a black screen with the movie sound playing normally.

I can never get the picture back and the only way to resume is if I end the media player and relaunch the program!

I think I am the first to discover this bug/glitch in the MEDIA PLAYER VERSION 8.0 that ships with XP.

Thanks

Sent them an email an hour ago. Shall see what they say...

It it is really strange. I have tested this on several machines, and it does the same thing. It even locks up the screen when you maximize. Click the screen and you will here the default error sound for something locked up...

You can get the picture back! :)

I did what you said:

  1. Open a movie in WMP8
  2. Put it to fullscreen (Alt+Enter)
  3. Minimise it to tray (Windows Key+D)
  4. Then I clicked on it and got the blank black screen

But. If you press Alt+Enter at the blank black screen, the movie continues to play in fullscreen.

Anyway thanks for the solution. How did you come to think of trying that?

Restoring it should work, maybe MS will do something about it after reading your e-mail.

As for how I came up with it...

A chance occurrence; an accident.

You are right, and when I press WINKEY+D again, the screen is blank and you can not even press the "Esc" key. However, functions of Windows (like opening the Start menu with the WINKEY) still works. As from the above advice, the Alt+enter does work, but that does not make sense so to get the screen back again.

This might be off topic but can you get a screenshot WITH the image of the playing file on it?

In addition, I tried with MPEG and WM7 and the bug is still there. In addition, if you are playing an audio file with the Windows Media Player visulisations, go into full screen mode for that visualisation (make sure it is a visulisation that can go into full screen mode, such as the "Battery set") then press WINKEY+D, so to minimise it, then try to press WINKEY+D again, to bring it back, but nothing happens (possibly another bug?). Your instinct would be of pressing the Microsoft Windows meida Player tab on the taskbar and when you do, the black screen is there. As before, you can not do anything but press Alt+Enter to get the visulisation in full screen mode. So that could be another bug.
