iPod Clickwheel problems...

Recommended Posts

Has anyone with a 4th Gen iPod had instances where the scrollwheel refuses to work? My buttons still work, but with no scroll, its pointless. I've gone and filled out a Warranty request form, but after entering my Serial Number multiple times, it told me my iPod is probably not covered by warranty... This is impossible, its about 8 weeks old... So now i have to fax some confirmation through to Apple also. I am REALLY ****ed about all this especially because it took me an HOUR to do the online forms...

We're Sorry!

it uses heat from your skin, so if you hands are really cold, or wet, or anything that would inhibit the clickwheel from knowing your finger is touching tthe wheel you will get that "bug". if this isn't hte case than there must be a pretty technical issue with the ipod for it to "randomly" not work.

That has happened to me twice. I returned it and got it repaired (or so they claimed). It still didn't work, even for multiple users. I just gave it back, and got a refund. I probably will not buy another Ipod, I had enough of the problems for now.

1 thing, it does not use heat. I don't know what it does use but i know 100% it does not use heat I remember reading a discussion on this very board where someone said about his laptop touch-pad not working and him going on to say perhaps his fingers was cold and then another user posted some massive fact post showing all this stuff that proves touch-pads don't work by heat..

wish I could remember what it was called that they use.. motion tension i dunno i cant remember but its not heat.

funny thing happened today my right button on my mini stopped working. i went right to the apple store and they looked at it for a little bit and then gave me a shiny new replacement. it was so easy and painless. :)

best support... ever (Y)

i would suggest going to an apple store and sign up for an appointment at the genius bar

Apple

I'm gonna leave it til tomorrow, if nothing happens i will call them, having my iPod not working really is VERY annoying. It is equally annoying having all these hoops to jump through to get it repaired. This time last year with my 3G iPod it was a piece of ca:(... :(

Thanks for the link.

Which specific number would you call, man? There's a whole lot of information on that page, and i didn't spot no obvious number to call...

When I get stuff repaired by Apple I just ring the phone number thats in the product manual.. in about 20mins they are sending a box out to me so I can send the malfunctioning product to them. Its a piece of cake.

I would never do repair stuff or insurance claims and stuff over the internet since I'm not talking to a live person and I cannot get an immediate response. - Just ring them steve.

OK, I phoned Apple's Technical Support number - 0870 876 0753. They told me to phone the Apple Store to organise a replacement - 0800 039 1010.

Thanks for the number buddy. I just called them up over it. I'd already gone through most of the warranty process online, and it didn't seem to be getting anywhere. I'd faxed my proof of purchase through, as well... Anyhow, i spoke to some Irish dude (Had to really concentrate when he spoke :pinch: ) and he tried to sell me the iPod applecare. Should all be sorted now, and i think he said it'll be collected tuesday - UPS? Everytime i've dealt with Apple its been with DHL, we'll see... Apparently it takes roughly 10-12 days, for those in the same boat...

    • Visual Studio finally gets long-awaited feature that developers will love by Usama Jawad Visual Studio Code is Microsoft's popular, lightweight, open-source code editor, it is actually Visual Studio that is the company's flagship integrated development environment (IDE). Although the IDE already offers a boatload of useful features for developers, Microsoft has finally introduced a long-requested capability that will be loved by many. While developers have already been able to create Git pull requests (PRs) directly within Visual Studio for the past couple of years, it had not been possible to review a PR without switching to the browser, until now. Microsoft revealed in December 2025 that it is working on UX that enables developers to do just that, and fast-forward to June 2026, and Visual Studio finally has native capabilities to open and inspect a PR, discuss feedback, and wrap up the review, all without switching to the browser. This integration works for both GitHub and Azure DevOps (including on-prem). Developers have access to multiple surfaces to open a PR, including Git Repository, Git Changes, and the Git menu in Visual Studio. Once you open a PR, all the important details will be immediately visible to you, from where you can navigate to various levels of granularity and branch states, depending on the reviews that you are engaged in. As you would expect, you also get a diff view that enables you to see code changes inline or side-by-side in a separate panel. You can also review commit-by-commit. Additionally, this UX fosters collaboration as you can leave comments, reply to threads, and resolve conversations easily. Naturally, you can also leverage Copilot to apply a code suggestion to fix a potential issue. When you are done, you have the ability to approve, complete, and merge the PR. This is a pretty major feature as it has been requested heavily for the past few years. You can try it out in Visual Studio 2026 version 18.7, made available here recently. Microsoft plans to enhance this experience further in future releases with comment filtering, a timeline of PR activity, and more.

    • Around 68% of developers are now using AI to generate code during development, and some experts are saying that a single developer using AI tools can now do the work of an entire team of 4 to 5 engineers.  According to Figma's State of the Designer 2026 report, 72% of designers now use generative AI in their workflows and 91% say it improves the quality of their work, not just their speed.  But does this mean web developers and designers are becoming less relevant, or are they simply evolving into a different kind of role? Would love to hear from developers and designers here has AI made your job easier, or do you feel threatened by how fast these tools are improving
