DoD: Source wil pwn CS: Source

Recommended Posts

No clue why The Specialists isn't going to be ported. On their forums, everytime a post is made a with a suggestion of porting to Source the answer "no" is given followed by an insta-lock.

I assume that they aren't going to make a decision until either

a) They have seen the Source engine for themselves in better detail

b) the modding community kicks off

maybe change the alien side to more of a ranged focus class. I like the Idea, just don't like playing the aliens much

That would totally offset the game though. The marines are the ranged rance, the aliens melee. Maybe you just need to practice more. ;)

Chode, it seems like many of the modders have that sentiment. The NS boards are the same, though I think Flayra trying to start his own gaming company has a lot to do with it.

No, haven't had any problems that I know of.  Not like people flying around in CS or walking through walls.  But since you are so well read on the hacks I guess you know what you're talking about.

Cheating isn't fun anyway, just a waste of time.

Flying around and walking through walls are not hacks/cheats., They are MAP exploits which are fixed through updates. And you don't really fly around or walk through walls. There were a couple maps where you could walk on top of the map or pop through part of a ceiling...

what you just described sounds a hell of a lot like no clip, as far as hacks go, there are plenty of them out there, even if you have "never" played with anyone who hacks there are people who are extremely subtle about it. to the point where you would never even know. as long as people wanna cheat there will be hacks

The problem with DoD is that unlike CS in which the Dev team actually listens to the good players, they just do random stuff to appease the terrible pub players who have no skill. Dod 3.1 Beta required 10x more skill than 1.3 retail will ever require.

However, I am anticipating Dod:S.

Not even Varsity, pandering to the lowest common denominator is why you end up with things like NS:Combat :x

It is a balancing act. Anything friendly enough for all pubbers will not do well in the clan scene while going too far the other way will put off n00bs and won't draw in the vital new players.

 DOD:Source promises to be fun as hell, but cs is well... cs, Its like that chick you dont wanna bone anymore...but you keep going back. :D

The Specialist source would just be sick!! very cool game, i can imagine it taking full advantage of source engine.

Natural Selection is also an elite game because simply, i've never seen a mod that was so well done, as in people having a comander like in starcraft or something. Once we actually got a pro Warcraft player to be our commander and we owned every game, those where the days....

All these would be cool on Source, I love the Half-life mod community!!

Beware: elitism detected!

Listening to the actual community instead of the minority with the loudest mouths is the bravest and best decision a dev team can make.

Not quite.

By catering to the pubbers I mean things like changing recoil, accuracy of weapons, and things of that nature. Stuff that in beta were'nt a problem. However once retail came out randomness in the firing cones of the rifles was added, as well as slower reload bolt times, and more recoil for some guns. All these things which were changed in an attempt to make the game "easier". Funny thing is, some of it was changed in the later versions because of how bad they were.

Clan players will push the game past what it will be on its own. Do you think CS would be as popular as it if they didnt cater about 60% to clan players and 40% to pubbers.

I'm not saying clan players are all knowing, however, if changes are to be made they should be the ones beta testing etc simply because they know how to push the game to see if the changes are good or bad.

oh forgot [/rant]

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
