Make your own NO-CD?

Recommended Posts

First and foremost: I own this game.

There, now that I have made that clear, hopefully this kind of discussion is allowed on here. I always use NO-CD patches for all my PC games. I think it's ridiculous to have to go and fetch my game CD every time I want to play, especially when nothing actually gets loaded off of the disk. When I used to have a laptop, the chances that I was even near my CDs when I wanted to play were very slim.

Long story short, I've had Halo PC since it was released, and have been installing all the updates as they come out, then getting the corresponding patch afterwards. Typically there'd be a few days in between where I'd have to use the disk while a patch was made but that was fine. The dilemma I've run into w/the latest (1.05) update is that my disk is scratched beyond repair and won't read anymore. I updated anyways, and just figured I'd wait for the patch to come out. Well....it's been a long time and I can't find one anywhere. I'm not asking for a link, so please don't offer one. I'm simply asking if there's any way to make my own (edit the .exe somehow??) w/out having access to the original game files. (I know I should've backed up...but alas I did not.) If this is off limits, a mod can close this.

You can use a hex editor to edit the main executable to make your own but there is one available for 1.05, but I guess you don't want the link.

Really? I searched everywhere. If it's the one from gamecopy, or gameburn, one of those... It's not really 1.05. Using the 1.04 patch makes 1.05 work, but you can't connect to any 1.05 games... Server choice is limited.
