Installing windows xp from another partition

I have created an unattended windows xp install for my computer which is about 4 gb big. I don't have a dvd writer or plan to invest in one.

Is it possible to install windos xp from an existing partition on my hard drive - i.e.: i have all the installation files sitting on a partition...can i install my pc directly from that?

This is rather urgent since i desperately need to reinstal my pc due to windows xp problems with the hal.dll.

i don't see y not... it shouldn't give u an error saying that the system files r in use..

Let me clarify something.

I now have 3 partitions:

1) C:\my old windows 98 SE partition

2) D:\my current windows xp partition

3) E:\my win xp installation files with the service packs slipstreamed and all my sftware with an automated install prcess

Any way i can use the E:\ partition to reinstall my windows xp directly from it? Couldnt I add an entry in the boot.ini menu or something, and anyone know how i can do this? (if possible)

Yea well I see what you're talking about...but if you want to say that you have to say a CLEAN installation.

Don't see a way you can boot from another partition to the setup.....not sure

Just run the setup.exe? thats what i did when i ran Windows Xp Setup from My HDD.

1st thing Setup won't run under Dos mode!

2nd thing you need to run winnt commnad for installation & using this command unattended won't work !

It is necessary to Boot from CD for unattended installation works!

Sorry, but i didnt hear him say anything about DOS mode. - I've never ran a unattended installation before, so i wouldnt no.

would it be possible to start my unattended setup of xp from within my current 'damaged' installation of XP? I used to do this with 98SE - the actual setup was unattended. Could this work with XP>? Any ideas on this?

EDIT: I can make certain parts of the installation attended - like the partitioning and stuff btw
