Software that delete partions and formats...

Question

Ok, i dont have a floppy drive on my laptop, so i was wondering, are there free software that you can copy to any cd to make a boot cd that has the options to format drive, partition it and clean the drive out?

Giving this laptop to a relative.

Also, is there a guide to do right after Windows Xp Install for the home version? Like a Must do first tweaks.

Also a guide to do proper formatting of your pc?

GDisk is the best alternative for FDISK

GDisk is a DOS command-line utility, GDisk.exe, that includes all the features of FDisk and additional features. Everything you can do with FDisk you can do with GDisk. Partitions that are created with GDisk are indistinguishable from those that are created with FDisk.

GDisk has six main modes of operation, the first four of which correspond to the menu options in FDisk's main menu:

* Creating partitions - Primary DOS partitions, Extended DOS partitions, Logical DOS drives.

* Deleting partitions of any type, including Non-DOS partitions.

* Listing current partition information.

* Activating a partition (nominating it as the bootable partition).

* Making existing partitions invisible and visible again.

* Reinitializing the Master Boot Record.

* Batch Mode - a mode that enables multiple commands in the same GDisk session.

For Example: We can create and format a partition and make it active also with a single command which is not possible in FDisk.

Use your Windows XP CD. The XP cd is bootable so you can just put it in and turn on the computer. Upon installation, it will ask you if you want to select a partition and format it in either FAT32, NTFS (quick or full) and then XP will install into the partition you selected. :) no need for any floppy drives. I even took mine out because it's just sitting there doing nothing.

Yeah, you're not thick, but Satchel is. Anyway, he's a lovable POOCH!

Uh, why don't you try one of the other 'write-to-zeros' apps on the Ultimate Boot CD?

Such as:

AutoClave 0.3

Darik's Boot and Nuke 1.0.3

PC INSPECTOR e-maxx

(BTW, DBAN = Darik's Boot and Nuke . . . )
