Xvid codec - were from?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know were i can get the xvid codec from. I think that is the reason why my film isn't playing.

It has been put together as (name).Xvid-done.1

So i think its the xvid codec i am missing as divx doesn't play it and PowerDVD and WMP play it but without sound.

Other avi's and .vob files play with sound but this xvid one doesn't.

Also can i have a guide on how to install the codec if it doesn't come in an exe!

you can't use Divx player to play Xvid files. That's silly. (seeing that you installed divx 3.11, the player that comes with it doesn't support xvid)

Install the latest Divx 5.21, it comes with an updated player that can play both Divx and Xvid formats. Remember to remove xvid, to avoid any conflicts.

uhm it might be because the xvid is encoded with some other audio codecs that you dont have. Most are encoded with AC3 *cough* downloaded movie.

Use Gspot to detect what are the codecs you need to play the file. http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

try media player classic of vlc from videolan.org

VLC, is good but the way it decodes video is flawed and on allot of .mpeg's it messes up on the left of the screen (I have seen this with many SVCD Mpeg videos) SLD codec is best thing to use, since it can be used with any player on your computer be it winamp WMP or even the Divx player.

Only a noobie would install that pack of crap. I might suggest learning a bit before trying to suggest the "best" thing to use. You have a long way to go.

Main suggestion: format and reinstall. You will never get all of the crap off no matter what,

Second suggestion: Unregister all the decoder that crap installed. then re-registered and default Windows decoders. Reinstall any app that installed dshow decoders. Then install just what you need from the developer of the codec (not some lame third party site)

Cal2002 no need to-be such a tw&t man. I was just trying to help him out. And I'm no noob gosh your such a loser.

Just re-install WMP10 I don't think the new beta SLD codecs have been tested with WMP10 yet sorry for my mistake, when you re-install WMP10 it will say copy over file <blah insert random filename here blah>? just select yes to everything.

directshow is directshow. That did not change from WMP 9 to WMP 10. And no, the install process for WMP 10 will not touch a single DirectShow decoder, why it would touch third party stuff, i'm not sure why anyone would think that.

All codec packs are pure crap and only a pure noob would install them, the rest of the people are a step above and know that they are all crap. Also, the setup for WMP will not prompt you for anything (unless you screwed your system over by deleting other files, not codec's)

Trying to help is different then suggesting people install pure crap that's pirated (against the rules here, BTW) and that will screw over parts of your system. :\
