router working in 10mbit mode

Recommended Posts

i've got SMC barricade 7004ABR router 10/100mbit.

it seem to work in 10mbit mode instead of 100mbit. i can't download/upload faster than 1300kB/s to/from external network. if i use the other router or don't use any, i can get speeds around 8000kB/s up/down.

i can't select if i want to use 100 or 10 mbit mode, but it works slow. any ideas how to solve this?

Happy 2000 :)

What happens if you force 100mb/s on both NICs, instead of auto or auto negotiate? Also some NICs have a light indicating 100mb/s is active, check that. There should be a light to indicate 100mb/s is enabled on the connection, so check that out too.

Also check SPI or some sort of Packet Inspection as that can seriously slow down your speeds.

TBH I had a SMC, and altho I do respect their products, I had a problem with my Barricuda and I returned that for a Linksys and no issues. My SMC kept kicking me off the internet but the network was working fine. Nothing ot do with your issue tho :)

Maybe a firmware upgrade as a last resort.

thanks for the reply

1. No firmware available for my model #

2. NIC are forced to use 100mbit speed

3. NIC and router uses orange leds to indicate 100mbit speed

4. don't know what's SPI/Packet inspection

Hmmm ok. SPI or Packet inspection should be in the router setup page. Like for my Linksys, my IPs are 192.168.1.xxx and my router setup page is 192.168.1.1 and in there I can fiddle around with my router settings. Call SMC if you can to help you out if you are having problems accessing the page. On the SMC website they have a manual and you can check it out there if you still dont' have your manuals.

Firmware updates if you couldn't find them ;). Want to make sure first you check the router settings (in there it should also tell you what firmware you currently run).

SPI isn't in the router setup page, i'd know that if it's there :)

there's a firewall but i turned it off.

router settings are ok, i tried several resets and factory defaults, nothing changed.

there are a lot of firmwares for 7004ABR

Part No. 750.5432_Firmware v1.41.004 (self-extracting)

Part No. 750.5432_Firmware v1.41.004 (zipped)

Part No. 750.5648_Firmware v1.41.004 (self-extracting)

Part No. 750.5648_Firmware v1.41.004 (zipped)

Part No. 750.5702_Firmware v1.42.012 (zipped)

Part No. 750.5756_Firmware v1.42.012 (zipped)

Part No. 750.9818_Firmware v1.015 (zipped)

but none of these matches my Part No. which is 750.5704 and i can't flash any of these, you know?
