Hi all,

Win98 SE SP 2.0 BETA 1 is ready now. Please, don't forget that it's a BETA. So, only install it for testing purposes.

Some features have not implemented yet: USB Mass Storage device support, New Desktop Icons and Better Notepad. Uninstallation is not available, too. I hope, BETA 2 or FINAL will contain a much better USB Mass Storage device support.

Please, write your comments about this BETA. Any suggestion is welcome.

Download 2.0 BETA 1 (BETA 2 will be ready soon, so I removed the link).

What's new in BETA 1?

- NEW: Optional components support (Windows 2000 Color Scheme, Performance Tweaks, and Adaptec ASPI are optional now).

- NEW: At least 3 new hot-fixes.

- NEW: IE updates for bundled IE 5.0 (This is especially useful for 98lite users).

- NEW: Support for all 98lite configurations.

- NEW: Shows attributes column in details view on the Windows Explorer.

- UPDATED: Roots Update.

- FIXED: Some bugs (Only WindowsUpdate bug is major).

Not everone has brand new hardware and not everone wants to give MS anymore money. If 98 is still the best OS for your hardware (lots of 3-5 year old laptops dont have a choice) and software, its great to have all the updates that MS has applied in a singe file as well as some good fixes that MS didnt think of (or care about) at the time.

5yr old laptops????? omg :s

Some of you need to realize that not everyone can afford to go out and buy a new PC every year so they can keep 'top of the line'.(<- that's not me by the way  Others, still use it for many purposes, and it still can be used in many different ways.

Though the link seems to be dead, thanks for posting.

OK, then Win2K icons will be in 2.0, and it will be optional.

I hope BETA 2 will be released in this weekend.

i really love this program. Why not change all the icons to winxp? they would look a lot better. Also, im not sure if u have added this, but add network support? As when you make a network with a winxp machine, u need ur xp CD to finish it off on a win98 machine...maybe u could add to this the SP to save time for ppl installing a network?

    • UK to ban under-16s from social media following a six-week trial with teenagers by Paul Hill Credit: Pexels A few months ago, Neowin reported that the UK was trialing a social media ban with 300 teenagers for six weeks, that testing has come to an end, and Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that the country will ban under-16s from social media. Starmer said that this technology is making children unhappy and making it easier for bullies to harass and abuse them. He continued to talk about the addictive nature of social media, saying that it uses an infinite scroll designed to lock users in for hours. He said this interferes with children doing their homework, reading, playing with friends outside, and going to bed on time. Tackling the idea that nothing can be done about social media, Starmer said: The government’s action won’t stop at social media either, the PM said. It plans to take action on gaming services and livestreaming platforms. Right now, he said, strangers can contact any child unchecked. He said this wouldn’t happen in real life, and the government is going to stop it from happening online, too. The Labour government has overseen the introduction of the Online Safety Act, a big change to the internet which includes age verification on adult websites. This has led to a fair bit of backlash, but overall, the government is pushing ahead with these changes.

    • I'll wait for the root cause analysis. Looks like it's HP, Lenova, and certain configurations that are askew, hardly "all of windows." Time will tell.
