JustGeorge
Can someone tell me where the hosts file is located in XP? I want to delete it to see if it fixes some Internet problems I've been having. Hawkeye
It's not the greatest idea in the world to delete your HOSTS file entirely. You are better off editing it than deleting it, as it will have the same effect. By the way, you could have just opened a Search window and searched for hosts. It would find the file pretty quickly. ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/240484-where-is-the-hosts-file-located-in-xp/#findComment-584883656 Share on other sites
ToryAmos
you can create a shortcut to it and view it with notpad %windir%\NOTEPAD.EXE C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\etc\HOSTS Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/240484-where-is-the-hosts-file-located-in-xp/#findComment-584884032 Share on other sites
JustGeorge
I didn't delete it. I opened it up and it had nothing in it. Problem turned out to be my router. For some strange reason, it was blocking one website from loading. Reset everything to factory defaults and all is well again. Can't understand why it did that, because I didn't change anything. Thanks all. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/240484-where-is-the-hosts-file-located-in-xp/#findComment-584884435 Share on other sites
