well i'm home for a little while and i decided to reinstall windows 2000 on my mom's computer, because it hasn't been touched since i built it 2 years ago. i reinstalled it and what not then i got some ridiculous virus like things while using internet explorer to do windows update....

a couple processes that my avast anti-virus has caught and deleted many, many times is a thing called beird.exe, i also have suspicious processes running like svdll32.exe, servic.exe, ttaw.exe and mUiexec.exe....i've tried looking them up but i cant find much out about them...

any ideas ???

spybot and adaware do nothing...

wow ok...this is only getting worse....now every once in a while the computer will start slowing down a bit so i go check in the processes list and there are likes 6 - 8 CMD.EXE and net.exe processes running that like close and reopen once every couple seconds...this is some bad stuff here....i've tried different anti-virus, all windows updates, spybot, adaware....nothing works....i've deleted all entries i can find in the registry...nothing works at all

1) Download windows 2000 SP4. Click Here

2) Download some firewall software if you havent already got someTry Sygate out

3) Download an antivirus package if you havent already got one

AVG or Avast are good

MS Partner pack includes ETrust AV 2005 (with 12 months free updates)

Etrust 2005 From MS Site

Complete MS Partner Pack

4) Burn the install files for these onto CD, or put them onto a 2nd harddrive on this PC.

5) Disconnect this PC from internet or network

6) Boot from Win2k CD. install afresh copy of windows. Format your HD completely (use the option "NTFS Format" (not quick))

7) Once in windows, install SP4, firewall and antivirus

8) Connect back to internet/network

9) Run windows update to get latest updates. Update virus files on your antivirus

10) Download and install adaware and spybot, and update them and run to check you've not caught anything malicious

Let us know of any problems, and also how you got on
