Creating Folders in the Quick Launch Menu

Recommended Posts

If you are like me, then you keep a lot of icons in your Quick Launch menu for quick access to your favorite programs. However, if you build up too many icons here, finding the one that you are looking for can become a hassle. I have always wished that I could create folders in the Quick Launch menu so that I could organize the icons. Well, I have stumbled upon a solution to this!

The following was tested on Windows XP Pro. I imagine it will also work for home, and maybe for 2000. Beyond that, the directories are different, and you will just have to compensate for your version of Windows, and its directories. I would appreciate it if people with different versions of Windows would try this out and tell me if it works or not.

Ok, so its actually quite simple. Just browse to the following folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR-USER-NAME>\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Be sure to replace the <YOUR-USER-NAME> text with the username that you use for windows. Now that you are in the Quick Launch folder, you can add and arrange your icons to your liking. Enjoy!

Finished Product:

quicklaunch.gif

C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR-USER-NAME>\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
This can be shortened to
%userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

It works regardless the knowledge of <YOUR-USER-NAME> and location or name of "Documents and Settings" folder (if it is moved or renamed for some reasons)

:)

See his taskbar, he have left so little room for the bar it transforms itself into almost normal menu :)

But you will want this instead https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...l=freelaunchbar You can have same spacesaving effect, set toolbars min. size to 0 and squeeze it - all content will pop up clicking on the arrows. Nice freeware.

    • Some people don’t like them but plenty more enjoy what they have to offer. Check the value of the company.
    • Not such a great deal, Ultimate, which gives you full 5080 features is $181.99 CAD per month, that's $2183.88 per year, I can buy the 5080 for $1809.99 CAD, then it goes up to $279.99 per month after the first billing cycle. Typical cloud rental, costs more than buying the hardware.
