i was wondering if it is possible to force links that open a new page to open in a tab instead of a new window. someone tried to tell me that i should just middle click links to make them open in a new tab, but it is impossible to predict what links are giong to open a new window and which ones arent. So I would either have to open a new tab for EVERY single link i clicked.... or have the new window open, close the window, and go back and middle click. Is there any way to solve this? thanks.

get 1.0

then goto settings->advanced->tabbed browsing

no need for an extra extension.

yes i have looked there many times, but the option to force new windows to open on a new tab is not there...

in the address bar,  about:config

edit: with 1.0 you dont need an extention.

its in the advanced prefs, and there is an experimental option in about:config

browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs set to true.

What is experimental about it? It works well for me but I wonder why it isn't part of program without having to tweak it. Anyway, thanks for pointing it out.

yea well, i tried to like firefox from 1.0PR, all the way thru the release of 1.0 today... but it always irritated me so bad just because new links opened a new window... now that this is fixed i can actually enjoy using it :p.

I can't get "My assistant" to work. Keeps opening in a new tab.

Edit : That rule to force new windows in a new tab applies to pop up windows too. Darn. They should have made it so "_blank" windows open in a new tab, and pop up windows open as normal.

I'll try that extension out.

My biggest peeve right now is that I can't make it stop opening a new window when clicking an external link. I don't want EVERY new window to be a tab, just the ones that were tabs in 1.0PR.

If I go to https://www.neowin.net/comments.php?category=main&id=25469 and click on any link in the article, I get a new window. This never happened before, unless I wasn't using TBE. Now with or without TBE it behaves like this. :angry: :angry:

    • Can you still click his nose in the about box?
    • In that case this product has no value to me. I'd rather use older Creative SB that were better in my opinion or onboard audio chip.
