SteelTrepid, the PM was sent to Flishfun, not me (it seems people still haven't figured out who to PM for what). I was really surprised when Flishfun told me about it, so I had him forward it over to my side. After converting the PM's text to english (lol) I was shocked!

Yeah, seems people just PM the first person they see... be it for you or me. Oh well, at least it ends up gettin' to who it should eventually. :laugh:

Anyways, yeah, that is a quite scary PM.

On a side note, this 4 day holiday weekend of mine will be filled with working on the new AP5 modules, and the new Autopatcher website. :)

lol... one of the funniest questions i have taken time to answer!

Just so we can get the whole ETA thing out of the way... We are preparing for a Christmas release, and judging by the progress done so far, it will be based on AutoPatcher 5.0...

I dont think there was any need to open source APXP, that said, after looking at the Test package i have to say that APXP has become more customizable than before, the db files have been replaced by modules, this is a great thing we could just download latest modules rather than the full thing also if u are a unattended fanatic you could exchange your modules with your friends, this is gonna be a great release.

Rogue, AutoPatcher is just a program. Thnk of it as a shell program. It indexes a database of items for a specific operating system. Version 5 will actually be a new version of that very same program. That of course means the structure will change (no more database). So it's really a question of what kind of database/modules you have. AutoPatcher as a program supports 2000/XP/2003 (and AutoPatcher 5 will extend the support), but it's really the database which was designed for SP1. Since we're now moving to modules, AutoPatcher 5 will only load modules designed for your operating system.

chezy666, thanks, i'm quite excited about AP5 myself. I really think everyone will benefit from the new features. We will be able to keep AutoPatcher up-to-date and issue new modules whenever needed, and you will be able to download the ones you like. Furthermore, as you said, people could make their own modules (i.e. for non-english versions of windows) and share them. AutoPatcher will be able to load these modules with no further tweaking on a database!

Official modules come with an ecrypted module configuration file (.amc from Autopatcher Module Configuration). So there's no question about that. AutoPatcher will load all module which are designed for the running operating system version and language. However, if a module's configuration file is not encrypted (thus unofficial) it marks it with a red color and adds a "(Unofficial)" tag next to it.

But yes, you guys are welcome to create your own modules and submit them here. We will try to go over as many as we can to check their authenticity, and if everything goes well, we will pack them as official.

And just so you people know (in case you didn't bother trying the preview I posted some days ago): Modules will be downloaded as .amp files (Autopatcher Module Package). It's actually a zip file with a new extension. For those who are not sure how/where to install them, I have made a Module Installer which works like this: You put all .amp files in \modules folder, and execute the Module Installer. You select the ones you want to install (or all!) and then just click a button. It should be easy enough for everyone :)

Check the screenshot below:

1. AutoPatcher detected that some items are already installed, so it marked them with blue and unchecked them

2. AutoPatcher detected that "Test Module" was unofficial, so it marked it with red and added a "(Unofficial)" tag next to it. The whole thing is in Greek (have been working on some translations hehehe), so I hope you understand what i'm talking about :)

3. If an items is both already installed and unofficial, it will still be marked as red, but it will be unchecked of course

OK, after a LOT of searching, I think I have finally got it right with operating system detection. Not only AutoPatcher supports all versions of Windows, but also, it can determine the exact version/type (i.e. Home, Pro...).

Personal I find the dark and light blue colours for not installed and already installed patches/stuff a bit confusing. It would be much clearer if already installed patches were marked green instead of light blue.

Just my 2 cents :happy:

yes, i can handle that ;) but you my friend... you must start making some modules fast! i dont think you have understood what autopatcher 5.0 holds for you :) In order to create a good module you need detection for it. Which means you must first install it to see what to use for its detection! So you better get started!

I will, I will. Planned to do it on my Thanksgiving break, but with the 2nd degree burns, and other such things, it kinda slipped my mind. Don't worry, this week should have me getting a bunch done. (Y)
