Disable Security Center in Windows XP SP2

Recommended Posts

Ok, recently I was told how to do this by a friend as if you dont set one thing right or the way Microsoft inflict you to it will constantly infect you with the abusingly annoying red icon at the bottom of your screen. I, for one, like to keep my taskbar free of clutter of icons and I also like to have control over when and if I decided to isntall and anti-virus, firewall and check for updates.

So, here it is..the instructions on how to remove it...this comes from a post I made in this thread (https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=243086&hl=) and I thought more people might like to know how to do it...

1) Click on the Start button and navigate to : Control Panel - > Administrative Tools -> Services

2) Find Security Center in the list of services

3) Right click it and select Properties

4) Click the Stop button and make sure the drop down menu is set to Disabled

There, your done, its now disabled :)

disabling the service is a rather extreme way to get rid of the little red icon in the systray, don't you think? Alternatively, you can just go into security center, click on "change the way security center alerts me" on the left, and then uncheck the items you don't want to be bothered about.

You see....it's threads like this that lead people to come back a week later saying "xp is (digression from this quote : excuse me while i render myself senseless, i'm not actually stupid enough to speak this way, so forgive me if i get my "leetisms" wrong) teh 5ux, i have 586743976234 v1ruses and am being hacked up the 455" therefore giving XP and not its users a bad name.

Why don't you just fix the problem you are being warned about?

Say again in English. Also try and use proper punctuation?
