MPEG-2 decoder?

What one do you guys reccomend in order to play mpeg-2 files with windows meida player.

Any just a plugin and free?

Try Google. I know everyone says that but mpeg2 is not available for free.

I'm talkin leagal... but free plugin for windows media player...

You can try the GPL MPEG-1/2 decoder available here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/gplmpgdec/

Or you could also try the alpha Dscaler 5 codec which is based upon the above decoder and is slowly improving. Both codecs are free.

ffdshow will not work as a dshow MPEG-2 decoder for WMP. The GPL and Dscaler 5 will both work. If you looking for something eith erhigher quality look to nvidia's DVD Decoder (All DVD Decoders doublt as MPEG-2 decoders)

FFDshow does work for mpeg1/2. You need to go to the FFDshow's configuration window, click on codecs, scroll for mpeg1/2, then select libmpeg2

I use FFDshow's mpeg1 over the default one as it has better visual quality, at least for me.
