[Spoilers] Half Life 2 End

Recommended Posts

OMFG, how good was this game? I have no complaints what so ever. Yes I may have completed it within 2 days, BUT and this is a big but, I have played it for 13 hours in 2 days to complete it. If I hadnt it would of taken a while but because this is HAlf Life 2 and the story just kept me playing, your like right i will stop here, but then in the back of your head you wanna continue to see what happens and thats what I did, kept on playing.

The music is amazing, goes hand in hand with the game and my fav piece is the Suite one its awsome :)

I didnt complete HL1 but did see the ending and I must say I have enjoyed HL2 more than the first.

The ending, was good but made me want more, and i spose this is what vavle was after, they have to give you something to make you want more, leave questions unanswered. When the last explosion goes off and all of a sudden the GMAN appears your like wow, you sit there in anticipation to hear what he sez. I think this guy is more of an agent of freemans loaning freemans services to places in need of a saviour, in HL2 it was the people of City 17, in HL3 who knows? Only Valve do, now I hope we dont have to wait another 6 years to find out, if so I will pay Gabe a personal visit.

10 / 10

and role of HL3

So is there really 2 endings? I've read a few things on some different boards.

1. if you use cheats you get a different ending

2. if you don't get on the teleporter with alyx then you get a different ending

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

hmmm doubt it, just finished it all of 5mins ago omg how ****ing great is it omg omg omg,

my friend played with god mode on, and i didnt and we both got same endings, the ending above, time stopped explosion, poor alyx, she was "virtually" hot id hit that!!

Let's put it this way: we can load every map and there's no alternates when it comes to the ending.

something tells me it wont take six years for HL3, because most of that six was spent on the Source engine, am i correct?

if so, i doubt theyd change such a brilliant engine, just build a new game over top of it, and maybe tweak the engine, with the availibilty of newer technology in the coming years,

so touch wood, 2 or 3 years hopefully, come on Gabe you know we want it!!!!!!

I'm still uploading a bunch of Half Life 2 videos, but here is one related to this thread:

You guys are amazing... I have never ever FINISHED any game...

I am very impressed with anyone who gets to the end of the game!

Somehow I don't think that we will see Half Life 3 for quite a while, about the time they finish up Source 2.

Nah, they're going to be using Source for everything now, gradually updating it as time goes on. Think Unreal Engine, except we don't have to wait for the next game and to shell out again to get the benefits. ;)

My advice for the ending is: DON'T WATCH IT TOO MANY TIMES! I've started finding all sorts of problems with it and it's impact has been completely lost on me. :(

Well, i'd like to first say that I too rarely play a game to it's entirety. Hell it took me more then a year to beat Half Life. Having said that, I beat HL2 in 2 days, and boy did it leave me confused. The game was fantastic, everything about it, but I can't help but wonder how much better it could have been. For anyone that played around with the alpha leak, there was a boat level that had the making of something great, but they cut it. They also cut a bunch of the original's weapons as well as the sniper rifle and the OICW. There were a very limited number of aliens (none of which posed any real kind of challenge, just numbers) and the ending left alot to be desired.

I still don't know who the "benefactors" are, nor do I know what Dr. Breen's part in the whole matter was. Who are the combine? Who is the gman? What happened to Alex? What were the Combine trying to accomplish?

I guess I'll have to play it again as I admit I was entrenched in the gameplay and didn't pay much attention to what was happening. The ending seems to suggest that the Gman is using Gordon to do the dirty work, in which I find him repulsive because he is basically playing with Gordon's life. So here you are, just after having defeated Dr. Breen and just before the Citadel is about to blow and bam, the Gman stops time, rescues you from your certain death and leaves Alex and City 17 to their doom. Damn him!!

They cut a lot of stuff from the game to get it out sooner. I expect most of it to appear in HL3.

One of the great things about the story is that it's all told firmly from Gordon's perspective. Anything you don't understand, Gordon doesn't understand: It's not a story of the combine's invasion of Earth, it's a story of what happens to Gordon Freeman. The disadvantage is that it can't pan out like a normal story any more.

To answer your questions the benefactors are the combine and Breen is probably there as a 'human' face to make it 'easier' for people to accept the combine. The rest is indeed a mystery at this point - although the threat of 'permament offworld assignment' to deserting combines might suggest they want Earth because it is a better place than their own world.

Yeah, the story wasn't exactly brilliant, but who are we to comment.. like we could have made anything better ;)

yee of little faith.valve spent years perfecting the hl story, just because it isnt all neatly wrapped up now doesnt mean it wont be next game ;) i have a feeling this will be a great trilogy

Sounds like Half-Life 2 was good, I still haven't got it yet :( still need to upgrade my computer before it will even run it  ...but it kinda sucks how it seems tobe so short! I dunno about you guys but I liked a long game, expecially since over here in the land down under we (well most of us ;) ) pay close to AUSD$100 for a game  ..anyway, I really liked the first one and I'll probally get this one too, short or not it does look sweet :D

just because some of us beat it in 2 days doesnt mean it was a short game. it was actually pretty long. most of us put an average of about 15 hours into.... most games take much less time. for example, hl1 can be beat in less than an hour... i am going thru hl2 right now again to see how fast i can do it.

Well i did it about 30mins ago....bloody loved every minute, altho i didnt make a note of how long it took me :)

Was only on Normal anyway....will do it again pretty soon on hard, after a few days of CS:S :p

And whoever said the Stryders were hard to kill, i god damned agree with you!!! Expecially when there was 2 of em in that square.....well was for me, took me ages to find the box of missiles :p

    • Yup, broke my comp… again. its times like this when I regret AMD. This just never happens on NV.
    • Huh? You're delusional calling the Steam Deck dead. It is so successful that it has sold out multiple times. Even after the price hike this year it sold out again with 24 hours of being back in stock. The demand is real and has not died down even after four years.
