Motorola T720

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this can be used here or not... but I thought I would share my findings with everyone here!

I have the Motorola T720 GSM cell phone and I've finally figured out how to upload games, ringtones, and images to the phone! This will not damage your phone (unless you do something stupid) and it will not void the warrenty! This is also LEGAL so don't go thinking that its not! The programs are also free (to the best of my knowledge)! This guide will help you to add ringtones, games and backgrounds to your T720. I have not tried this on other models of Motorola cell phones, but you are welcome to try!

I unfortunetly cannot upload the programs, however if you are nice and e-mail me and ask... I will gladly send you the programs and the walkthrough!

PROGRAMS YOU WILL NEED:

* PST Phone Programmer

* Midway

* EMS Manager

* Data Cable

PST Phone Programmer is a requirement for any of this to work! Without it... your SOL!

Using EMS and PST to upload Ringtones and Pix.

Ok, first thing to get out of the way. Any picture/Screensaver you want to add has to be a GIF file because jpegs etc will not work. The image can also be no larger then 120x160, you can go smaller, but NOT larger.

Second thing is your Ringtones can only be in the MIDI format because Mp3, Wav etc do not work. It is also best to keep then in the 30-50 second range (how long do you really need it anyway??)

1) Open the EMS program, it is a stand alone so to say, so there is no install procedure.

2) For wallpapers or Screensavers, click on the ADD button and browse to the gif file you want to add to your T720. Once you open it you will a preview of how it will look on your cell. Do that for each Gif you want to add. You can also change the name of any pic to something that will be easy to find, for example, if I put a pic of a Tiger onto my T720, I rename it to 01-Tiger so it will be at the top of the list and I don't have to go browsing through all the built in pics to find the one I want.

3) For Ringtones, simply click the Ringtones add button and then browse to the appropiate MIDI file.

4) When you are finished adding the files you want, click on update EMS. This will make the file that you need! (First time you need to save it)

5) ***IF YOU ARE USING AN EXISTING EMS FILE SKIP THIS STEP! *** Close EMS manager and reopen it. Click on File and then open and find the EMS file that you just created! Then click on Update EMS to clear the protection!

6) Make sure your T720 is connected to your PC and open the PST software. (DO NOT have any other program accessing your phone open)

7) After it is done loading up and XP is through with all its sound effects you are ready to use it.

8) In PST go to File-->Open-->M-Services Backup. Browse your way to the .ems file you just saved and open it up. A window will open up within PST telling detailing the number of Graphic Files and Ringtones you are wanting to add to your T720.

9) At this point, click on the little button that looks like an arrow pointing to a phone, if you let your mouse hover over it it will say "Write Data to Phone" This will put your T720 into Suspend mode, your screen will go blank so don't panic!!! And whatever you do, do not unplug your phone until the process is totally Finished! Another window will come up giving you details as to the status of the uploading and when it is finished it will say safe to disconnect or some such at the bottom, Do Not unplug your phone until you see you display, and you are sure it is finished. If it says it is Finished, but you do not see your display after a couple minutes, click on the Icon with a little yellow star beside a phone, when you hover your mouse over it, it will say Restart Phone. When you see your display again you can disconnect and go to Media Center to preview you new additions and pat yourself on the back.

Using PST to Enable Java Uploading.

If you plan on adding Java Games to you T720 using Midway, you are going to need to enable your Java Uploader if it isn't already. You can find out by going to Settings on your T720, then Java Tools, then look to see if there is an option called Java App Loader. If it is not there, you will need to create a new Kjava File in PST, follow the next procedure...

1) Connect your T720 to your PC, and open PST.

2) Go to New, then click on Kjava File, when you do this another window will open and you will see a tab saying "Enable/Disable Java App Loader Menu" and it will ask you to read the phone, which is the icon with the black Phone and a Question mark beside it.

3) Once you have it enabled, you should see it on your T720 by going to Settings-->Java Tools-->Java App Loader. and then your cell will ask you to Insert Cable Now.

Now onto the Next step...

Configuring and Using Miday 2.6.

Midway, like EMS is a stand alone program that doesn't need installing.

1) Now that you have it enabled--on your T720, go to Settings, Java Tools and select Java App Loader, it says to Insert Cable Now, so go ahead and do it. If successful you will get a messege on your phone saying "JAL Link is Active..."

2) Open Midway and go to the Settings, in the settings choose either Com port 3 or 4. You can find out which port you phone is on through the Control Panel in XP.

* Before we go further, you should know that to load up a game, you need two files, a Jad and a Jar file. To avoid potential errors, open the Jad file of the game you want to load and look for the MIDlet-Jar-URL: This should only have the name of the game you are trying to load, Not the url of a website in with it, then the name of the game, for example...

You may have this after downloading a game from the net...

MIDlet-Info-URL: Http//www.gotthisfrom thissite.com LunarTanks.jar

But the way it should look is just like this...

MIDlet-Jar-URL: LunarTanks.jar

I have noticed time and again errors when the url of the game hasn't been removed.

3) Click the Open Jad Icon, and browse to the game you want to upload, once it is opened you will get a rundown of the info of the game.

4)Click on the Send Jad Icon

5) On your T720, you will get a screen saying a File want to be added, click on the Download softkey and it is on its way! Once it recieves the file, it will automatically install it and if successful you can go to your games and play it to your hearts content!

A couple things to check if you get errors...

Check to be sure you have Midway set to the right Com port.

Make sure you did the above mentioned with the MIDlet-Jar-URL:

Make sure you have enough space! I have been able to install 7 small games, but only 2 larger games at any time, there is not a whole wack of space to fit all your games and apps, so load what you think you will play at any given time, now that you can change them as you want.

Use Google to find out if the game you are trying to load is indeed compatible with a T720! You can also find a T720 Emulator on Motorolas website called Motorola SDK v4.0 for J2ME after signing up with them.

Visit Howard Forums and use the search function, it is an amazing forum that I have found tons of info on, including links to free midis, wallpapers and games!

If this doesn't belong here, mods, do with it what you will!

Nice contribution, I'm not sure how many people have the phone though :) Very nice though.

From what I've read and the places that I got all that information from (I tweaked it for how I did it and it worked) it should work on most, if not all current Motorola phones

Do you know if that works with any service provider? Like AT&T.. or Nextel My friend has a Nextel and has alot of games.

Service provider won't matter! Its the type of phone! There are lots of things that you can do with the PST Phone Programmer... but they are Use at your own risk kinda things! :pinch:

  • 2 weeks later...

PST Phone Programmer is NOT free, so be careful about distributing it. (as I'm sure you also have the patch...kinda gives away the fact that its not free).

But anyway, if anyone is interested in this procedure, after buying PST of course =), it will work with the T7xx series and Vxxx series. Quite possibly more than that even, but those are the phones I've had success working with.

    • Spotify finally removes the disco ball app icon in the latest update by Ivan Jenic Image: Spotify Spotify has just released an update that removes its now infamous disco ball icon. The update reverts the app icon to the familiar flat green logo after weeks of mixed reactions online. The icon arrived on May 13 as part of the company's 20th anniversary celebration and was always intended to be temporary, though Spotify only confirmed that after the backlash started. The disco ball took the internet by storm, as the reception was split. A vocal group of users called it ugly and disorienting, with some iOS users noting that the 3D glowing effect made the app look like it was stuck mid-update. On the other end, the icon picked up a following of its own. Its retro, three-dimensional look immediately stood out against the flat, minimalist aesthetic that has dominated app design for years. It even started a small movement, spawning what people started calling "discomorphism," a mashup of disco and skeuomorphism. Other brands started posting disco ball versions of their own logos, probably in an effort to ride the wave of memes that flooded the internet during late May. Spotify has had a turbulent relationship with its user base lately. Besides the disco ball icon, which certainly wasn't appreciated by everyone, the company has also received backlash for its willingness to include AI-generated music on its platform. On May 17, Spotify promised the old icon would return “in a few weeks.” And now it looks like that time has finally arrived. So, whether you liked the disco ball or it made you uncomfortable, it’s now gone for good. The next time you update the Spotify app on your phone, the old, flat-design icon will return.
    • Playground Games confirms Forza Horizon 6 save wipe bug by Taras Buria Forza Horizon 6 was launched last month to critical acclaim (check out our review here), and it became a smash hit in an instant. Now, weeks into the launch, with die-hard fans clocking hundreds of hours, Forza Horizon 6 is facing a serious issue: save wipes. After multiple complaints on Reddit and social media, the studio issued a statement. The problem with missing saves came shortly after Playground Games promised the initial batch of gameplay tweaks and improvements. Unfortunately, there seems to be no temporary fixes for those affected by unexpected save wipes. However, the studio published a new support document with a few important steps users should try. First, affected gamers should open a support ticket immediately (go here to file one) so that the support team can try recovering the lost progress by reverting to an earlier save. Playground Games says this should be done the same day the issue occurs. Meanwhile, gamers are urged not to start new play sessions or create new saves. The studio also published a few things gamers should try to avoid to prevent potential progress loss: Ensure your Gaming Services app on PC or XBOX Series X|S console is fully up to date. On XBOX Series X|S consoles, disable Quick Resume for Forza Horizon 6: To disable Forza Horizon 6 from using Quick Resume, highlight the game box art anywhere in the console experience (Home, My Games & Apps, Pins, etc) and then press the Menu button, then go to Manage game and add-ons > Quick Resume settings > Disable Quick Resume. Ensure you are online when ‘quitting’ the game. Give your saved time to sync to the cloud before powering off or switching devices. Do not force quit the game during save screens. Do not power off the device during gameplay. Always "Quit" (console) or "Exit to desktop" (PC) once you've finished your play session, ensuring the save icon is not visible when you’re closing the game. Before turning off your console, shutting down your PC, or force-closing the Steam app, give your devices or clients at least a few minutes to ensure your latest progress has been synchronized with the cloud. This will reduce the risk of progress reversions as you switch between different platforms. XBOX Series X|S consoles, Steam, and the XBOX app on PC all include game save indicators that confirm your progress has been synced. You can read more about the bug in the official support document here. Forza Horizon 6 is currently available on PC (Steam and the Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X|S, and Game Pass. The game is also coming to PlayStation 5 later this year.
    • If only Windows would have a toggle switch labeled "Get the latest updates as soon as possible" inside Windows Update settings... But nah, let's hide the new stuff inside a controlled feature rollout, even if the user is explicitly asking for the new stuff as soon as possible. Awesome idea!
