Setting up and Configuring an FTP server

Recommended Posts

Well, production has started on my FTP walkthrough! For all of you that want to create your own FTP server, and don't know how to, I'm going to help you out! My guide will walk you through step-by-step in createing your account with << spam >> and setting up their DNS Update Client, to setting the IP address on your PC to static, and installing and configuring your FTP server software! AND there will be pretty pictures all alone the way! That way you'll have a visual reference to what your doing! And if your screen doesn't look like mine, then your doing something wrong (that does not include desktop theme, background, sounds, icons, cursor, taskbar icons, or system tray icons).

Now for all of you who can't seem to remember what you just read, the guide is in productions! Its not finished yet (in fact, I just started it while at work! LOL  )! If anyone has created an FTP server with << spam >> and has used Bulletproof FTP, or any other FTP server, then send me a PM and we'll add it into the guide! That way people can use any program that they want (or that is in the guide! :p )

And if someone wants to be my proof-reader, that would be great! Not to sound picky, but I would really like someone that is great with networking and knows his/her way around Windows and a network!

I'm hoping to have a beta of the guide done in a week, and then the final release in two! LOL I know that sounds really dorkey, but after all the threads about "How do I run my own server" or "I want to make my own FTP server, but don't know how!" I want the guide to be perfect!

I'll keep everyone posted on the progress!!

Ya, unfortunetly as of right now you need an FTP client to access my site. I'm still working on it to allow access from a web browser! :p

Great timing, I just setup my FTP server with IIS and I'm having trouble allowing people to access it through the web browser. However they can access it through the command prompt and from my internal network.

Using Linksys BEFSR41 with FTP ports forwarded to the correct IP address

    • Both a game adaptation and it's on Amazon I'll set my hopes low
    • You shut your mouth you young fart, that was just a few years ago, lol.
    • Good effort, but unfortunately not very useful in the real world, since it doesn't support UEFI - which is a major drawback. More than that, most PCs these days have Secure Boot enabled by default, so unless you're tech savvy, the average joe is not going to disable Secure Boot - which means automated Windows > Linux migration programs like this will not work. And if you're tech savvy enough to know how to disable Secure Boot, then you're tech savvy enough to just flash a USB drive and install Linux the usual way - after all, the actual installation process is just point-and-click. So I don't see a use case here to be honest, especially considering the lack of UEFI support - especially when you consider that more and more Linux distros are completely dropping BIOS support (eg Fedora dropped it back in 2022). So this program is a bit too late to the party.
    • I agree with open rights group that the age check companies should be regulated but action does need to be taken imo, they may be called irresponsible parents but the fact is that many don't know how to set up blocks. Why should kids suffer because their parents don't know something? I think the UK has always been a bit like this. We don't say healthcare is your responsibility, we tax everyone and make people register with the NHS. We also don't expect everyone to brush their teeth to maintain dental health, we just put fluoride in their water assuming people aren't brushing enough, because some probably aren't or aren't doing it properly. In general, this way of doing things works.
    • Well that's the weird thing, the UK really isn't a very religious country at all and the same politicians that are backing this (basically all of them) also support things like assisted dying which various religions spoke out against. I don't think this is coming from religion, of course religious groups will support it but I don't think they've started it.
