Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW 20" Widescreen LCD

do dead pixels just decide to pop up one day, or if they don't show up on the first day they never will?

You can pretty much safely say it is like that. Most will come dead/stuck out of the box. During the initial warm up phase when you power it on and use it for a bit, a pixel may die or become stuck after the panel has been warmed up.

It really is luck of the draw and if it was manufactured well. But this does not tend to happen from experience.

pick of my new 2005fpw powered off my 700m.? comparing it to my samsung 712n it dwarfs the 17".?

Looks good.

Glad to see its dwarfs the 17 Inch.

Be nice to see the 2001 and 2005 compared though.

It shouldn't be -that- noticeable. I went from a 22" Iiyama HM204DT CRT, and I am not bothered by the size of the 2005fpw. It isn't as tall, but it seems very wide... Takes up a lot less desk space too (I know the last comparison won't be valid with the 2001fp though).

Got mine today, no dead pixels!!!! w00t... I can't believe my eyes, they are going wowowowowow

anywho, its my first time having an LCD for my desktop, my laptop, and Acer 4501 has a nice 15.2 inch widescreen... or whatever it is... :)

they look great next to each other... :)

^take a pic for us please!  :p

and do you guys use DVI or VGA?

will it look ok on vga?

I dont have DVI (yet  :shifty:  )

I had to come into work, but I tested it for about 30 minutes hooked to my laptop via VGA and I couldn't tell the difference between the two on clarity. The laptop as I said above is an Acer TM4501WLMi, its actually a 15.4 inch screen, so it does the same resolutions as the 2005FPW which is really handy.

I have not tried the DVI yet, but I probably will tomorrow. Also pictures will be coming tomorrow as well.

OOOOMMMMGGGG!!!!

This freaking monitor rocks to high heaven. This is my first LCD monitor ever. I hope it lasts years...it's soooo gorgeous. I didn't know my games could look like this.

All my games look like those high res game pics they show you for game reviews. The lighting is so clear...the colors are AMAZING. MAN OH MAN.

No dead pixels....no bleeding, no probs, just great service. Dell also delivered the monitor 5 freaking days ahead of schedule...how awesome is dat? You go dell!

what revision do you have? and what month was yours made?

wow...ordered on the 12th, it arrived the 17th...living close to the warehouse really helps :) all i have to say is coming from my old, crappy viewsonic 19" is that this monitor is the coolest display i have ever seen. mine came with no dead pixels and it is super bright. This display was a steal at ~560 shipped after coupons and dell must be making a killing selling these things. if you have the means, i highly recommend this monitor.

-inkwell

Hey, I got a question about this, could you take 2 of these 15% off coupons and use them together....Because that would be awsome.. ANd if it is possible.. Can anyone PM me with another 15% off coupon? :D:D

The % off coupons are not stackable... you could do this though, use a 15% off and stack a $10-45 dollar off coupon which you can find other places on the net.

Cheers...

PS... the DVI looks way better than the D-SUB connection, my monitor was way to bright, so I turned the brightness down to 23 and then reduced the colors down to 70 each, now its perfect. :)

Hey, I found it on the UK Dell store.

http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/Produ...uctlisting.aspx

It costs ?616.88 Inc VAT & Delivered ($1,192.95 USD:blink:)

Is the biggest discount coupon 15%????:((

With 15% off its still ?524 ($1,013.34 USD)

 dude your gonna make me cry... i want a ultra sharp wide screen since they came out!!!!!! im honestly gonna cry!

DUDE THATS SUCH A WICKED MONITOR!

lucky ******!

New to the forums and decided to post my expierence so far with my new 2005fpw.

I recieved the LCD on Tuesday afternoon and upon opening the box I was shocked at how large the panel is. It dwarfs my 19" NEC CRT. Color and clarity is amazing on this thing. Any eyestrain problems I had are simply non-exsistent now and I can't imagine going back to a CRT.

Good news and bad news. Good - no dead pixels. Bad - severe backlighting problems. When I first fired it up I did'nt notice the backlighting issue until after a couple hours of using it. It seemed to get worse overtime and during regular apps, games (like unreal, however not such as doom 3 due to the game being very dark), internet browsing, etc. it is not at all noticiable. But watching a movie ecspecially with dark scenes it is horrible.

So I have been trying to contact dell about getting a replacement. I e-mailed them the day I got it about the backlighting with no response yet (supposed to get a response within 24 hours, been 3 days) and I have tried calling and have been put on hold for well over an hour and ended up getting nowhere due to me not being able to be on the phone for that long (busy). I will have plenty of time this weekend to try and get ahold of them though.

So my question to anyone who has succesfully gotten dell to send a replacement out what method did you use? E-mail, phone? Am I simply having bad luck or is it due to the holidays? Any advice is welcome...

Thanks in advance.

    • Thanks for the advice guys, I'll give my current GPU a clean and then run the benchmarks to see how similar it is. Hopefully a bit of a clean-out will help it last a bit longer.
    • Pretty sure those will still be in this game. The series' well-explored psychosis themes will return as well.

    • Microsoft making much needed change to Windows 11, 10 Patch Tuesday security updates by Sayan Sen Recently, Microsoft delivered its latest Defender patches for Windows 11 ISOs. These definitions are released from time to time alongside the general security updates available during Patch Tuesday. Speaking of Defender, the company has now announced another important change that affects how security updates are delivered to enterprise devices running Windows. According to a recent announcement, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint's endpoint detection and response (EDR) updates will no longer be bundled with the monthly Windows security updates or Patch Tuesdays. Instead the company is shifting delivery of these updates to Microsoft Update, bringing EDR servicing in line with several other Microsoft Defender components. If you recall, Microsoft last year moved PowerShell updates to Microsoft Update (MU) as well since it provides automatic updates for Microsoft products and services. Thus the move is intended to allow Microsoft to deliver EDR improvements and security enhancements independently of the OS's regular monthly update cycle; this should enable faster deployment of protection updates without requiring organizations to wait for the next Patch release. For those unfamiliar, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint's EDR capabilities are designed to help organizations detect, investigate, and respond to advanced threats across managed devices. Keeping these components updated is critical for maintaining protection against evolving attack techniques. The rollout has already began for Windows 10 devices in late May 2026 (last month) and Microsoft says it will gradually expand support to Windows 11 and the remaining supported Windows versions over the coming months. The company expects deployment across Windows 10 and Windows 11 to be completed by fall 2026 or around Q3 of this year. Once the transition is complete, EDR updates will be delivered through Microsoft Update using KB5005292, provided the required prerequisite updates have already been installed. Microsoft is also introducing a new Defender Update Service as part of the change. Following installation of the first update, devices will automatically create a new directory located at %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Microsoft Defender\Defender Update. Microsoft notes that restarts may occasionally be necessary in case of "rare" failure scenarios. For most organizations, the tech giant says no action will be required as long as Microsoft Update is already permitted within their update management strategy. Admins who rely on manually deployed update packages, however, will need to adjust their processes to ensure the new Defender update package is included. Microsoft also recommends reviewing internal documentation and notifying helpdesk and security operations teams about the updated delivery mechanism to avoid confusion during the transition. As a prerequisite, the tech giant notes that systems must be running Sense version 10.8798.25857.1000 or later and have one of the following Windows updates (or later) installed: Win11 24H2 KB5062660 (2025-07 Cumulative Update Preview) Win11 23H2 KB5062663 (2025-07 Cumulative Update Preview) Win11 22H2 KB5062663 (2025-07 Cumulative Update Preview) Win10 22H2 KB5062649 (2025-07 Cumulative Update Preview) Win10 1809 KB5063877 (2025-08 Cumulative Update) Server 2019 KB5063877 (2025-08 Cumulative Update) Server 2022 KB5063880 (2025-08 Cumulative Update) Server 2025 KB5063878 (2025-08 Cumulative Update) As always, organizations should verify that their update policies align with the new servicing approach before the broader rollout reaches all supported Windows platforms later this year. In case of major problems, the EDR update can be rolled back to the inbox version stored in %ProgramFiles%\\Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) using: MpCmdRun.exe -RevertMde -Product Edr -ToVersion Inbox For those who have access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center portal, you can view the message here under ID MC1381119.
    • My problem with these smart scopes is that IMO they're not really an entrance into astronomy, they're an entrance to looking at pretty(ish) pictures that you take by essentially pressing a button and letting the scope do the work. I still maintain that getting some binoculars or a solid dedicated telescope (which doesn't have to mean expensive) and actually spending time learning the night sky and using a telescope is a much better way to actually learn. But, granted, the learning curve is a bit steeper (as it tends to be).
