I can't make heads or tails of this.....A PATCH?!?!

A patch? For a monitor? WTF? Perhaps their "patch" will be a word document explaining how to massage the edges as mentioned earlier in the thread

Seriously maybe he meant there will be a new revision of the monitor...or something...or...shut up.

I posted this in the general help forum and no one has been able to say anything yet. Maybe someone here will have some insight.

I just recently got a Dell 2005FPW flat panel monitor. This is my first flat panel and I love it. I run with a Nvidia Geforce FX5200 128MB vid card. When I pivot the screen 90 degrees, my performance slows way down. Full Sys specs:

DFI Lanparty NFII Ultra B

Athlon XP 3000+ 333MHzFSB

1.5 GB Kingston PC3200 RAM

Geforce FX5200 128MB

Win XP 2005 MCE w/SP2

Has anyone else experienced problems like this. Thanks in advance for any help or light that can be shed on this problem.

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that screen rotation takes a performance hit; I don't remember where.

Hi everyone.. This is my first review and first post on Neowin.net..

I decided to write this review for many reasons:

1- I?m a big Neowin fan

2- I searched everywhere for a review on Dell?s UltraSharp 2005FPW 20.1-inch Widescreen LCD, but I didn?t find any!

3- I recived the monitor 4 days ago, and decided to post this review in hope that it might help someone out there!

Now, I ordered and paid about US $670 for this new screen from dell. I received it within 5 days and shipping was free..

I really wanted a widescreen LCD, I looked at Apple?s 20-inch WS LCD and HP?s 23-inch WS LCD, but the price was prohibiting! ($1,300 for Apple?s and $1,900 for HP?s)..

I currently own a ViewSonic VP171s 17-inch LCD monitor, I really like it, and it?s great for gaming (16ms response time and 1280x1024 nativeThe official specs for Dell?s UltraSharp 2005FPW 20.1-inch LCD are:-inch LCD are:

20.1-inch, Wide Aspect (16:9), Active Matrix TFT, Midnight Gray, 1680x1050 Pixels, 300 cd/m? Brightness, 600:1 Contrast Ratio, 12ms response time, VGA / DVI-D / S-Video Connectors, 4 USB 2.0 Ports, 100 Hardware:t

Hardware:

The package looked really cheap! but after opening the box, I fell in love immediately!! The screen wasn?t much heavier than my previous 17-inch LCD. There are 4 inputs in the lower rare end of the LCD: DVI, S-Video, analog VGA, and composite video. There is also a USB hub to connect up to 4 USB devices.

On the stand, there is a cable organizer (just 2 long clips to hold the power cord, DVI cable, and so on).

On the lower right corner of the LCD, there is 6 buttons for accessing the OSD, changing input, and Picture-in-Picture.

There is no manual with the LCD, just a CD and an installation flyer. There is an HTML manual in the CD which I didn?t even look at. I just plugged the monitor and updated Windows XP with the monitor?s driverDesktop Usage:D.

Desktop Usage:

The screen is simply marvelous, the work space is enjoyable, and you can easily open more than one program horizontally. MS Word and Photoshop CS never looked better! Colors were even better than ViewSonic?s VP171s, shiny and vibrant colors, excellent brightness, and silveresh colors never looked better. The screen is huge! I mean it?s really huge!!

One more thing: in Photoshop CS, the program asked me if I wanted to change the color profile to the one supplied by Dell. I accepted but found that the colors weren?t that good! So I changed the profile back to Photoshop?s default and everything looked great.

Watching Movies & TV:

I?m not a big fan of watching movies on computer screens because I have a kick ass home theater setup in my living room, but I tested a couple of movies just for this review!

Guys, this screen changed my mind!! Colors & clarity were amazing.. I didn?t notice any ghosting or frame drops, this LCD kicks ass! I didn?t test the TV inputs though, and the Picture-in-Picture function works fine, you can even choose the second picture?s position on the screen, or even watch two inputs horizontally..

Gaming (HL2)

This is the ultimate gaming LCD, I used it with Half Life 2 and I couldn't be happier. I was really surprised by HL2?s ability to display the game in widescreen; it gave me the option to display the game in widescreen (16:10) using a resolution of 1680x1050!! The display was amazing and the view is simply stunning! No ghosting or frame drops, but you have to choose ?wait for V-Sync? in the game's video options menu.

Verdict

- Design 9/10

- Display quality 10/10

- Gaming Quality 9/10

- Overall 9/10

- Installation 8/10

- Packaging 4/10 (cheap box and packing materials and no printed manual, but I guess that what makes Dell's products cheaper than the competition)

great review, i have been thinking about gettint this monitor. one question though. the dell site shows pip and pbp. i was wondering if anybody has posted a picture of the screen with pbp on screen. i am really interested in connecting 2 computers (vga and dvi) and being able to see both desktops on screen at once.

I ordered mine on Monday and I am confused about something.

Why does it take them 5 days to ship one of these out? I ordered a 19 inch Dell LCD from them also and it was shipped out from them the next day.

From the status screen it looks like they build them as they are ordered?

Also, my status has been on the "In Production" since the second day. It looks like they have 5 more steps to go and it was supposed to ship out today. Will they get it out today or am I going to have to call and bitch?

/Edit: Damn them. RIGHT after I posted this (they must be watching) I got a email from them. It is listed below.

I purchased the 2005 over the 2001 for one reason. I normally use dual monitors at home and work. With the workspace that the 2005 has (the width) I may be able to deal with just one monitor instead of having to purchase two 2001's.

I may get this monitor and decide I would rather have two 2001's and if that is the case I will return it for a 2001 and save up for about 3 months to get a second 2001. It all depends on how this monitor comes out.

I also have started to play a few games which support widescreen (Doom III and soon HL2).

I actuall ordered two 2005's BECAUSE use dual monitor configs .. the more the widespace, the better .. twice as much, even better

People who bought these,

Did you actually require a WideScreen format?

Or did you just want the latest and greatest TFT?

585249617[/snapback]

I don't "require" widescreen for anything I do, but I don't upgrade monitors too often. I expect to still have this one when widescreen becomes the standard rather than the exception.

I have a Dell Inspiron 4150 system with an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500

I've installed the monitor inf file, and it detects a Dell 2005FPW ( analog ) . However, I can't get 1680 X 1050 . the ATI control panel says I have "multiple monitors on ATI MObility Radeon 7500"

What should I do?

    • I have never been a huge fan of libre, it feels really good but exactly when you need an advance feature for data wrangling it falls short every time or has bugs. I am all for euro office if they can deliver a good and usable alternative to MS office with backing of govt function.
    • Go on, I'll bite. How does windows (nice comment on an 'article' which doesn't actually involve it ) lock users out of their data then? Been using it since 3.1 back in 92 and not once have I been locked out of my data? Perhaps you mean Bitlocker? In which case the average user (who doesn't mess about) will have been forced to use a MSA, and in which case the recovery key would have been saved to said account..... If the user did happen to bodge around and not use an MSA then Bitlocker wouldn't have become live (as it cannot without a safe place to store the key) I want to point out Bitlocker and MSA are not connected and you can of course force it on without a safe place to store the key, but you do that with your eyes open. So your standard consumer who knows no better sets up an MSA, gets bitlocker and a recovery key stored off box, with a route to reset their password. All of this notwithstanding the fact, if your data is important, you back it up, no ifs, no buts, no-ones responsibility other than your own. Important data lives in at least two locations, one of which is offline and recovery is tested, otherwise that data wasn't really that important. Disks, fail, laptops get lost, phones end up down the toilet, tablets get stolen, if your only copy of data is on a single device you're doing it wrong.
    • Clearly that feature isn't for us. It's for the ad spam marketers so they can more directly target us about going to places we might want to go again...but without understanding context clues. Like for the flight someone took for a friend's funeral. We want to be reminded of that every time we open an app, a browser, or email, right? Right, Siri?
    • Is your Apple Watch supported? Check the watchOS 27 compatibility list by Aditya Tiwari Apple kicked off WWDC 2026 with a ton of announcements, mostly centered around Apple Intelligence improvements, the Siri AI, and Liquid Glass updates. However, there is a lot of other stuff that couldn't catch the limelight. Let's talk about watchOS 27 and which models are supported by the newest operating system. According to the Cupertino giant, watchOS 27 will be supported on the following Apple Watch models when it arrives later this year: Apple Watch Ultra 3 Apple Watch Series 11 Apple Watch SE 3 Apple Watch Series 10 Apple Watch Ultra 2 It's a stark contrast with last year's watchOS 26 update, which had almost a dozen Apple Watch models in its list of supported devices. Apple supported models all the way back to Apple Watch Series 6. That said, if you own one of the five models, you'll need an iPhone 11 (or later) with iOS 27 to install the latest update. Yes, Apple has shown some extra love to the iPhone 11, and it old horse supports the iOS 27 update. watchOS 27 beta 1 is now available for developers and interested power users through the Apple Developer Program. So, if you're among those who like to play with fire, you can download it to your supported Apple Watch. Otherwise, the public beta for watchOS 27 will be available next month. The freshly baked Apple Watch update comes with Siri AI - an advanced, fully conversational version of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence due for later this year. A new dynamic app grid features icons for five Siri-suggested apps. You can use a new tap gesture to open a widget in the Smart Stack, and a new Find My app finally clears the mess of Find Devices, Find Items, and Find People on Apple Watch. Workout Buddy can run without an iPhone nearby and offers new insights based on data, including your progress for pace, distance, and workout duration. Apple improved its motion tracking algorithms to measure the distance of indoor treadmill runs and walks more precisely. Speaking of other changes, the music playback on watchOS 27 starts faster and you can create custom passes for any membership or card that uses a QR code or barcode, then easily access them in the Wallet app or pin in the Smart Stack.
