thug_poet22
While im on windows, i usually use a chat client called Y!mlite. Its a great chat client that allows me to chat within the already existing yahoo chat rooms.Im not really sure how the whole thing works but i really greatful for the little program because i hate chatting through yahoo.com itself and i also hate chatting through the messenger. It tends to freeze on the messenger and when you chat through the site, its kinda hard to toggle between chat rooms. Im really trying to switch over to linux, and all i really need now is to be able to chat with in the yahoo chat rooms. I enjoy going in there and talking about linux and talking about windows or apple computers. I like the real time convo. Helping people with their computers problems and that whole thing and also gaining quick assistance. I tried XChat but i really dont know how to get that configured so i can chat within the yahoo chat rooms. If anybody body has any knowledge of this matter please post. thanks in and advance. beh
If you cant find an equivelent program you can try to run the windows version in wine which is a windows emulator. Lechio
I believe u can not use Xchat in the yahoo network (Xchat is fo IRC). Yahoo does provide a messaging client for linux: yahoo messenger. But it's stripped out, it has no games, no audibles, no access to chat rooms, no nothing... That's the problem with companies that only think the M$ style. If u really want to chat in the yahoo network don't use their program, use something like Gaim, Sim or Kopete. As for yahoo chatrooms (yor real question), don't know of any program that does that. :/ Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/248482-a-chat-client-for-linux/#findComment-584981737 Share on other sites
thug_poet22
Hey thanks for all the suggestions but i've found out that i can chat within the yahoo chat rooms through Gaim. I was chatting in the Windows and Linux chat rooms today. I was really happy that i didn't have to install Gaim, it came with Fadora. Im really enjoying this distro. I think im going to stick with this one for a while. I tried using Mandrake, but it just wasn't for me . And i like the KDE way more then Gnome. But know all i have to do is figure out how to mount my windows hard drive so that i can listen to my mp3. And i also have to find a great text that will help me dive further into Fadora core 3. Thanks again for all your help and have a wonderful Thanksgiving. thug_poet22
Thanks for that post, and i went ahead and did everything that that link instructed me to do. But what i had already went ahead and did was i makde a 4 gig partition from the first hard drive and made sure it was a fat 32 files system, and then i moved all of m mp3's over to that partition. So instead of trying to mount NTFS, i just need to figure out how to mount that fat 32 hard drive. /dev/hda5 thats where that hard drive is located. I wasn't sure if fadora would automatically detect that fat 32 partitions or is there a procedure. markwolfe Veteran Posted November 27, 2004 Veteran Share Posted November 27, 2004 It should automatically mount it, I believe. It is set to do that as a convenience for you, if I recall. If not, then you can execute a mount command to mount it. A permanent solution would be to make an entry in your fstab to have Linux mount it at every boot. Are you able to access your hda5? thug_poet22
Nope for some reason i cant access that drive. Its weird, when i boot with my knoppix disc, Knoppix mounts everything. I wish fedora was like this, but i guess this gives me a chance to learn. I've really been stumbling with this problem. Im pretty sure its already mounted, i just have to get a icon on my desktop and i have to set it up so that it mounts everytime with my system.
