Not so far. I'm going to work on it today, though. Should be able to finish the file manager and make a start on the download script.

With the offers for help, it gives me an idea for a "load balancing" script to push files onto other servers (of those who volunteer space + b/w), only requiring a single file plus a folder with the correct permissions. It's something I will have to consider after I finish the script and work out any bugs.

I'm planning on skipping any betas for NeoIMG. :) Most of the code is written (previous project), so I just need to tie the signup system directly into the login system. Should be quick.

Though you can help right now by going to ( http://nfiles.nwserver.net/groupcheck/ ) and telling me the result that comes up after logging in! :D

Sorry, I forgot about that post. I have already figured out the problem with the Neowin groups and posted my results a few posts below. A few weeks ago I decided to put up a password protection so nobody could screw with the script while I was working out the bugs, as you could still upload .php files back then. I decided to keep the password protection up so nobody caught an early glimpse:):)

I'll have a development update later today.

Today's update:

File manager is nearing completion. I'm setting the code up to be put in frames so I can have files on the left and image previews/file information/options on the right. Right now everything is really raw and printed out as is -- though that will change. Edit: Already is. Check out the third screenshot down.

I haven't worked on the layout yet, nor will until all the code is 100% finished. Will probably work on it while beta testing.

Today's update:

Portion of script that lets you download, while also keeping track of how many times a file has been downloaded? Done. The final look of the "download url" you will hand out to people is:

http://nfiles.nwserver.net/?x=1298807154

With the numbers at the end being your file's personal download ID.

Don't try to click it, you will be denied access ;)

File Manager? Nearly done. I've added support to make the .jpg and .png files smaller in the preview box (but will open full size if you download the files), while .gif files will open directly from the source file. I just need to add some user options for the top menu (If I can think of some useful ones), and then I'm going to call this a beta.

Now, about the beta: I'll be looking for certain people. Don't come and ask to be a part of it, I'll PM you. Right now it's about username formats. I need to make sure the script still works with some odd usernames (Homer? and EnIgMa-PenGuIn - consider yourselves test subjects). I want to clean up some code before I start the beta, so I'll get back to you all soon.

I saved that avatar from someone on the forums here. Can't remember who, but it was pretty so I couldn't resist:D:D

Quick update:

Homer? has helped me out with quick beta testing, which found bugs I have missed or forgotten about.

I've still got a lot of code to clean up and put in other files, but I decided to take a break from all that and work on the layout. This preview is actually the second revision of the layout - I made the first one and put a shotgun to it. All Photoshop right now, no real HTML.

Took the layout for the main pages, did an odd thing, came out with my file manager early layout.

Earlybird Update:

I just finished coding the latest addition: Extension filters!

If you have a load of files on NFiles and want to narrow your viewing down to extensions, you can now filter by file extension!

Of course, nothing will look so ugly when I'm done, but here is a sneak peek of the filter working in action:

post-23120-1103626205.jpg

Edit: Also, something I forgot to mention: Another piece of code I will be working into the system is a "mirror assistant" script. What this script will do is the following:

1) User clicks your NFiles download link

2) NFiles notes that you have this file mirrored at other sites in addition to NFiles (set by you in options)

3) NFiles sends user to the next download link on the list (Say you have four download links and three people have recently started to download your file. User four will be sent to the next link the the list, which will set the script to send user five to the first one in the list)

What this will do is make sure every download is spread out evenly over mirrors if you decide to use this option.

A quick update on my behalf, I have ordered a server for myself, a 2.8GHz P4 HT machine, from ServerMatrix (Division of ThePlanet where Neowin is) and it should be up before the end of the night.

blackice, if you want a mirror, gimmie a shout and I'll hook ya up. :D

Maybe I should work on that mirror script and have it ready for the first release:):)

    • What are you on about? Not all 'AI' is the same, and AI in security it's a serious tool (Unfortunately it's good for both defence and threat actors, so it's currently an arms race). Recently discovered a 27 year old bug in OpenBSDs TCP stack, and will continue to find CVEs at a rate that human researchers/developers will never be able to match. I'm not a fan of the 'creative' AIs which stop people actually being bothered to think for themselves, but when it comes for looking for pattens (e.g Cancer screening photos), or finding weaknesses in software it has serious benefits.
