Recommended Posts

Microsoft recently released the Optical Desktop with Fingerprint Reader set, my brother saw this and fell in love with it, yes love at first sight anyways my youngest brother needed a new keyboard and my younger brother wanted this baby so I bought him the Optical Desktop with Fingerprint Reader keyboard and be passed his Microsoft Multimedia and Microsoft Wheel Optical mouse to my youngest brother.

Like most Microsoft products it comes in a well packaged red box showing off the mouse and the Fingerprint Reader.

There is another box within the outer box which upon opening reveals the keyboard and mouse.

The packages contains

- Keyboard & Palm rest

- Mouse

- Infra-red eye

- Documentation Software & Drives CD

SOFTWARE & DRIVERS

To take advantage and the full functionality of the keyboard you are required to install

- Microsoft IntelliType Pro 5.2 or newer

- Digital Persona Password Manager 1.0 or newer

- Microsoft IntelliMouse 5.2 or newer

After installing these you are required to restart the computer.

SETUP.

The first thing you will notice is the new login prompt

13.jpg

If you are trying to login with your finger then it will not work yet, you need to login using the old fashioned CTRL + ALT + DEL, upon logging in you notice that the Fingerprint Registration will appear

15.jpg

When you click next the wizard asks for the Windows password

16.jpg

Next is selecting which finger you want to use

17.jpg

The index finger was selected by my brother

19.jpg

You then have to have that finger scanned four times

18.jpg

If for some reason the scan fails you are informed

21.jpg

Once the scan is complete and you click next the wizard asks for another finger to be scanned, we decided not to scan another finger

20.jpg

That?s it you?re done with the setup

22.jpg

You are notified that you are now ready to use your Fingerprint Reader

I have to say that the first impression was fantastic, and my brother was impressed and loves it, another excellent product by Microsoft, extended battery life, no more remembering password, new keyboard design and the latest keyboard of course and you no longer have to switch the F-Lock on it?s on from the moment you switch your computer on but remember all this at a price

You can use the MS keyboard and a mouse of your choice not necessary to use them together

Wow! That's a nice set! I would buy it, just to stop typing my user/pwd :p

And no, I can't use automatic login because i'm not the only one that uses this PC :)

You can i was testing it out and i added a new pring and created a new account and used another finger instead of the one that u use to log in to the account and automatically checks ur fingerprint and logs u in the account that the finger is assigned.

Example: I scan my print and logs into my account and if my small bro scans his print it automatically logs into his account.

i am loving every bit of the keyboard :D :D

It works with multiple users perfectly no problems, Asia Mafia is my brother and you can believe us because we have done so.

Really good idea and technology, but i dont like the design of the keyboard and mouse, doesnt look sleek at all, and if i have cookies activated i dont need to type user/pass all the time, i dont like it.....

I will wait for Logitech to release something that looks and feels better...

Thanks for the post tho....

nice i was expecting ?100+:pinch:h:

What is the mouse like? I'm thinking about getting the mouse/fingerprint combo when it comes out in January as I need a new mouse and I like the MS Wireless Optical Intellimouse Explorer models. If it's not worth it, I'll just stick to plain models.
