Can i mix DDR 333 and DDR 400Mhz

Recommended Posts

Can i mix those 2 types of memory, one @ 333Mhz and one @ 400Mhz

I already have a 400Mhz but a friend is selling 512 @ 333Mhz for really cheap, i tried them and my PC kept beeping and didnt turn on, but maybe if i put the 333MMhz one first and in the second slot the 400Mhz one????

Or is just not possible....???

Thanks.!

Hmm, tough call. I suppose you could add it in, run it at 333Mhz and attempt to overclock it to like 360Mhz if the 333Mhz memory allows it. Just a suggestion.

Yes... the 400MHz RAM will step itself down to 333MHz, however, if your CPU is designed to run at 400MHz, you will not be using the full power of your CPU and you will notice a slight decrease in performance... and IMHO ... not even worth it.

hmmm, i like that idea.....

Never overclock anything on my life, i think is time to read the nice guides some people have put online, thanks....

My Motherboard has a limitation, It has 3 Ram slots, but it will only run the ram at 400Mhz if I only use 1 stick.

If I add 2 sticks or 3 it will run them at 333mhz max even if all the ram I use are 400mhz, My question is, I only have 512MB ram running at 400Mhz, is it worth adding another 512 stick to get 1GB but loseing in speed with both sticks only running at 333mhz.

(I know I didnt explain it well, its hard lol) Of course another options is to just buy 1 stick of 1GB Ram if they sell that at the speed i want?? (ive never looked so i dont know)
