OK, figure this security issue out. I just opened a gmail account and it was compromised to spammers immediately. I bought a gmeil invite on eBay and clicked on it. The Account opening was a normal as you would expect.

Several minutes after opening it I looked at

the sent mail folder. There was a sent email in it that was sent from

my name to my name. It was announcing my new gmail account. When I put

the cursor over my name in the To: field, it does not show my email

address, it shows an email address I never heard of

([email protected]). This domain is registered to someone in

Singapore.

This email was sent automatically when I opened my gmail account

through an invitation.

Has anyone else experienced this?

My account seems to have been compromised when I opened it. I sent an

email to google describing this problem and will not touch this account

until I understand why this happened.

Be careful, the gmail service seems to have been hacked somehow

You're such a cockmuncher. When you respond to an invite, and set up a Gmail account (note you need an invite to set one up), Gmail automatically sends the person who invites you an email to confirm your address.

That is the email you see, and nothing has beeen hacked.

I'm pretty sure he already knew that, and that you've managed to completely miss the issue that he brought up. He got an email from someone that was not "Gmail Team" after he made the account, which is indeed pretty weird and he was right in notifying Google about it. He didn't even say anything about inviting someone else and getting a reply for it.

Um, actually, you missed the point, he didnt recieve a email, the signup process sent a e-mail to the person who gave him the invite, saying the account was created.

i got the same spam messages....hmm, How did these spammers get all of gmail.com's addresses ?? mine isnt posted anywhere i dont think, and if i do post its always in

user [at] domain [dot] com

format :D

Brute force spamming most likely. Who cares anyway? Its in the spam folder anyway. So what's the big deal?

No, that's still not what he described. He said the email was sent from his account to his account, except that the recipient email address wasn't his. It's still not normal behaviour.
