Hey everyone

I's trying to install gdesklets 0.31, and I's having some troubles...

I went to the termal, and changed the directory, and all that, like the install guide says to do, then type ./configure and it does a bunch of stuff, but then it says

configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH

How do I fix it so I can get this thing to work? Only got Fedora Core 3 two days ago lol used Fedora Core 2 for a couple or days, so very new to linux lol

Thanks :)

RPM

http://dag.wieers.com/packages/gdesklets/

And check if you have gcc installed, just type gcc in the terminal and if you get something like command not found or file not found you dont have it installed and that's why you cant compile gDesklets.

To install gcc or g++ just go to the add/remove programs in the fedora menu should be in system tools or something like that.

Yeah, it sounds like you didn't include the 'development' packages when you installed. This is a common thing for people to do (as they think "I am not a programmer, so I don't need this"). Just add it, like karma_police mentioned, and everything should be better.

Missing gcc?

Try opening a terminal/console/shell and su to root, then do a yum install gcc. That should take care of you.

(oh, and remember to exit your root session, then you can exit or close your terminal window) ;)

Hey, I's ran into another problem...what a suprise huh? lol

Ok, I tried doing the yum install gcc, and it says

You have enabled checking of packages via GPG keys. This is a good thing.

However, you do not have any GPG public keys installed. You need to download

the keys for packages you wish to install and install them.

You can do that by running the command:

rpm --import public.gpg.key

For more information contact your distribution or package provider.

so then I tried doing the rpm --import public.gpg.key like it says to do and then I get the message

error: public.gpg.key: import read failed.

I tried to dl gcc from ftp://mirrors.rcn.net/pub/sourceware/gcc/releases/gcc-3.4.3/ and got the one named gcc-3.4.3.tar.bz2, extracted it, and then tried cding and yum install again, but same message....lol Sorry if these are stupid questions...Just got WAYYY to use to windows, and now having a harder time with Linux*L*

Thanks for your help :)

(And will see if I can stop bothering you with questions soon :p )

I've got no idea about yum, but what you downloaded from there was the source, which I don't think yum wants.

Yeah, the key checking has got me confused.

Perhaps if you disabled it, so you could install?... (I don't know how to do this)

Edit: Markjensen-ok, well maybe later I's'll just re-install linux, and mae sure to include gcc this time lol Since it wont let me install it under add/remove...wants me to find 2 things I's can't seem to find...The "libselinux" and "libxml2"

Oh well, Still liking Linux...even though I's can't figure out what I's doing :p

    • That's just silly imo. The lengths that man goes to just to avoid W11 is just nuts. Very, very few home users would do that. I will say this though, he is committed. In addition, Google for years have been making where it can patch some stuff by updating the core Google Play Store itself.  As echoed earlier,  you take the security risk in to your own hand beyond supported.
