Zakk Wylde - Guitar god?

Recommended Posts

I agree with ceminess; I am a fan of BLS but he his not a Guitar God.  Satriani or Vai can do circles around him.

Bull****. Being fast doesn't make you a Guitar God. Zakk is a ****ing monster on guitar. Far more kick ass. He writes far more interesting and awesome material. Don't get me wrong. I have a lot of **** from Vai etc... but Zakk's a melodic metal guitarist who understands that a good hook and melody is far more important that speed picking. But the cool thing is, Zakk plays blisteringly fast as and when he feels fit. Which means he can do both.

My two favorite players are Slash (no1) and Zakk (no2) because the know more about guitar playing than how to pick fast mixolydian scales...

have you ever heard satriani's "Flying in a blue dream" album?

do not speak of melody without hearing that album.

Yeah and at one point Zakk joined GNR for about a month.. damn if that actually had worked and took off that would have been the mother of all line ups/bands.

There are a lot of people that can play circles around Zakk. I think his stuff gets old quick. Granted, I haven't listened to any of his BLS stuff, but I wasn't even interested after getting bored with him in Ozzy. Don't get me wrong, though. He is a good guitar player, but I wouldn't put him up there in the pantheon of Guitar Gods.

What an interesting post.

How can you take Zak and put him against Vai?

Yes most here can agree that while Vai takes the "fast" approach at music, this doesn't make him better, it's just that Vai is Dr. Yes, Dr. Steve Siro Vai is his name and knowledge is key.

Satriani himself will agree that yes Zak is very good. But I feel he lacks in orginality. This may not be true coming from a guitar perspective, but he does "stick" to certain "genres" of musical being to provide us notes. Satch would also say he himself is no guitar god.

Take a look at www.jasonbecker.com and you will see a masterful artist. Yes he was a speed demon, but I have tracks of him that are classical and tasteful to listen to.

For all of you Satch fans, I recommend going over to www.foreverjoe.com (What up SAM????) Stop in, say hello, and check the download audio section. There you will find 4 tracks (audio) of Joe Satriani, and Steve Vai at "The Mothership" studios located at Steve's house of them Jamming. Pay close attention to what you hear, it's great :D

not this argument again! **** i spent the last few days with my musician buddies arguing about this... there is no such thing as the worlds greatest guitar player... cause there are 100 greatest guitar players, and i dont think you can put numbers on them, just say they are all #1 and instrumental in music today.

Zakk is an amazing guitar player, he's one of those practice 12hrs a day people (along side Vai etc) who just understands. He gets it.

Personally I think he is a METAL god, watching him on stage is amazing, he is the meaning of the word heavy (and not in a fat way!).
