XPize 2.5

Updated December 18th '04

INTRO:

XPize is a resources transformation pack for Windows. It replaces most of the non-XP icons, avis and bmps that Microsoft has always overlooked. The installer simply automates the process of replacing resources in critical system files, making your XP's look better. It comes also with an updater, which you can use after you visit Windows Update.

XPize is compatible with any version and any language of Windows XP (Home & Pro), MCE and 2003.

Wee bit confused over installation, how do I go about installing this onto my current install of Windows Xp sp2?

585045038[/snapback]

ok this is what I do when I need to install the file on a current install of windows.

I opend up the cmd prompt

I go to my were my files were extracted

so the screen would like like this

cd C:\xpize\

then I will run this command about 3 times.

ren *.dl_ *.cab

ren *.ex_ *.cab

and do this for all the files

this will make them all cabs. Then you select all of them right click extract using the winrar right click feature. Then I use bartpe to replace them all or you could use replacer

New Post

Thank you so much. I was just going to reformat because of a nasty virus i can't get ride off. I went to the front page of neowin and saw this.

Have you read the installation instructions? This pack is intended for a unattended installation of Windows XP with SP2 integrated. If you don't know how to do that, google->>>unattended windows installation guide. You will discover an amazing world full of new possibilities :D

If you want to apply this shell pack in your current install you have to expand all files and use Replacer to replace the files.

To expand your files go to cmd and use this syntax:

expand shell32.dll

Of course you have to do that in the directory where your files are stored, and you have to do it for every file (except regedit.exe)

Hope it helps

EDIT:msg43 method is also valid, and easier I think. You will see that installing this shell pack in an unattended installation is better. Imaging your Windows with all icons XPized by default :D

Thanks you all for your comments.

I listed my way but do I think you could extract all the files and put all the extracted files in a 7zip distrub. cuase theres a lot of people who would enjoy it much but they don't want to reinstall windows just for that

I just an idea good work

@msg43:

You have my permission, It would help people who is not familiarized with unattended installs.

@StOrM:

I don't like too much your idea. I don't ask for something when you download and use XPize, so please respect at least the statements reflected in the readme file.

A french version would be great! Please download the DOC and you won't have problems doing it. Just several considerations:

- Don't replace explorer.exe bmps, they are language sensitive.

- Don't post it yourself in a different thread...I have to do that. Just let me know in a PM when you are finished and I will post it

I will stay away for 2 weeks, so the person who is going to translate XPize into French has enough time to do it. If you have problems, you can PM me and I will try to solve them.

If you have any doubts, just tell me.

Thanks

XPero

    • Well I've done a grand total of nothing, and it now clocks between 2010mhz and 1995mhz (stock is 1710mhz) and hovers around 80c, warmer than it used to, but tolerable clocks seem to have returned. Thanks for all the advice on this thread. Will review the evidence and make a choice.

    • I really wonder if this has to do with the built in VPN or "private DNS" of browsers that trip up legal requirements like cookie consent and Cloudflare (to avoid all the botnet attacks we get). And BTW some botnets still manage to get past Cloudflare, we are constantly having to tweak it to block malicious traffic that ultimately cause a DDoS.
