xlink Kai not working

This is my situation i have a huge network in my house 4 computers and 1 laptop. a computer on every floor, and my room is the base station, so to speak, for it all, now im trying to take the lan connection from the computer in my living room and run xlink kai on my computer and have the xbox connect over it.

#1 do i have to disable my firewall is that whats blocking it

#2, my connection goes like this. DSL >> DSL Modem >> Router >> My Computer

and i have a switch coming off of my router going to my dads computer. so i just have Router >> switch >> computer.

Now the xbox is connected to one of the ports on my router. but that all i know, i know Kai found my xbox, but i dont know if my xbox is connecting to Kai.

You need to forward port 30000 on your router to your PC that is running the Xlink KAI program. That way the Xlink KAI internet game servers can talk to your internal LAN, which in this case is really just your PC and the XBOX which tunnels through it. The xbox always tunnels through the PC, as this KAI software is basicly just a System Link emulator server. Without it, the XBOX wouldn't be able to find other KAI internet gamers, so that is why the PC with the KAI software always has to be turned on.

You shouldn't have to, nor is it a good idea, to disable the router completley, since you want it to block most of the incoming internet connection attempts, for security reasons. It's good that the xbox can see the xlink kai program. That means there is nothing behind your router on your LAN that is blocking the xbox from talking to the PC (ie, a software firewall, such as windows XP's). The switch is only working at layer 2, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Lemme know how it goes. I've been having pretty good luck with using KAI so far :)
