[release] Longhorn Alternative GuiKit

Recommended Posts

I got this background somewhere on this board.  I don't remember who did it either, but this looks like what you want.

i made it :)

very nice visual style and accessories :D ..stuck this on my parents' computer :p

I'm loving this kit. Takes some more time to install and configure but still I think it's better than that Longhorn Transformation Pack. Instead of the firefox theme that came with it I chose the Saferfox Xpanded theme (with small icons!) because the toolbar alignment of the LhA themes bugged me. Installed the Simplex icon set too, instead of the default set.

Lookin' good. :D

Does anyone [including the authors of the great VS included here] know how to fix the gradient bug when the window is maximised? It is keeping me from using many good skins, like this one, many longhorns, various versions of inspirat. It's not horrific, but it's like a speck on your car's paint job, just eye-catching. I used to think it was just a Windows problem, but I have noticed that it doesn't happen on my friend's laptop with Royale Inspirat, though it happens on mine. She has 1024 resolution, while I have 1680 wide res. Does that have anything to do with it? I noticed that OldeCrow had fixed it on his Aero theme, and that Brushed Inspirat does not have it either. If it is fixable, can the authors do a fix, or someone mod it quick and send it to me. If it can't, educate me a bit more on why it's like that, maybe it's my setup. Thanks a lot guys.

I can safely say that this is the first Longhorn theme that I have used and liked using. I will continue using this for a long time to come.

I love the Normal style, and I am using it with a full start menu. I am also using the Firefox theme.

Thank you. :)

I would like to use this theme in a compact start menu form, but I can't seem to pick the right one. Can anyone help me out? I'm using the "default" color.

Also, is there anyway to force the commonly used links in folders to the side rather than having it on top? This section is the "file and folder tasks".

Thanks a lot.

First:

This theme does not have a compact start menu

Second:

Files and Folder position are determined by the shellstyle of theme and this themes shellstyle dictates the view to be horizontal-top. Now if you want it vertical-side find a theme that has that shellstyle, copy or move the shellstyle.dll and paste or put it in the Longhorn Alternative, Shell folder. You will be overwriting the orignal shellstyle just for your FYI.

Thanks for the help. I thought it had a compact menu judging from the preview picture linked in the first post. Guess not though...

Thanks again.

It does have a compact start menu. And very pretty it is too.

When choosing your colour theme, select the style with the 48px or 64px suffix, depending on your icon size. Basically, try one, and if the icons don't fit, try the other. Then enjoy your compact menu.

I'm liking the Objects Pre-release a lot.

    • Can you read? I've said I'm willing to pay more for a notchless (no notch) 3:2 screen.
    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.
    • make your own notch - it's not that hard
    • VirtualBox 7.2.10 by Razvan Serea VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers. • OK, now ask yourself how are they going to enforce that law? By requiring every single adult to prove their age and provide their legal identity documents to an UNREGULATED 3rd party company that already has a long track record of multiple data breaches. Not to mention, parliament have voted AGAINST this ban, twice, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. So, where's the democracy here, because that looks like dictatorship to me. The solution here is parental responsibility, not government control. Run some public service announcements on TV and UK social media teaching parents how to setup parental controls. That's already been proven to actually work. But the, this is not and has NEVER been about keeping kids safe. It's about control and monitoring. Watching what you're doing online and controlling what you can see and what you can say.
