[vncservers] Support composite (Xorg?)

Recommended Posts

I recently found out about the sexy (but pointless :/) soft drop-shadows and true transparency features of Xorg. My setup works whenever I issue startx locally on the machine, but my vncviewer ignores any of the features.

I've setup the ~.vnc/xstartup to closely resemble ~/.xinitrc, but it still doesn't show.

Also, during my vnc session, commands like glxinfo, or glxgears, yield the following errors:

Xlib:  extension "GLX" missing on display ":1.0".

Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual

&

Xlib:  extension "GLX" missing on display ":1.0".

glxgears: Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual

respectively.

Any idea what's going on?

While I don't think that VNC types of apps will show the hardware-rendered effects, I to think that you might be able to use X forwarding, and see the 'real' screens on another Linux box (or other OS capable of X).
