Hi guys,

Having not used Novell before now, I am a little lost on how to admin a bunch of PC's within our network running Novell.

Our domain is currently running on Windows 2000 Server, then we have 6-7 workstations running Novell which are basically used for huge print queue jobs. The Novell machines still connect to the company domain, but have Novell running over the top of Windows XP Pro.

We have tried adding a new user to the Novell system, which we have managed to do, however we are unable to use this logon on the machines due to an error stating 'Unable to find domain controller', although when we use an old account setup a while ago, it logs on with almost identical settings no problem at all.

Obviously we have created a mirroring account on our Windows server to allow access to our network drives and exchange server.

Secondly, we have created a further account for us to test on our own workstations, we are able to login with no problems, however we are unable to access some network drives within the Novell tree.

HELP!

P.S. If you know of a forum that deals directly with Novell software, please let me know!

THANK YOU in advance :pinch:

Not trying to be rude/flame, but from personal experience, you don't need Novell to do that sort of job, I find it to slow down a network, and cause long login times, but if you still want to use it.. i'll shutup :>

Fair play, I'm even tempted to agree with you.

But I have only recently started with this company, and I don't think reinstalling their workstations is an option just yet.

Make sure novell client is installed correctly and then goto novell netware administrative tool.. find the object you want to create the new user on and then create the new user using what ever template you like (or do it manually) novell isnt a good idea for a small network.

What does that mean?....How is Novell running on TOP of XP?....you mean to say that a Novell CLIENT is running on the said XP stations...

WHERE exactly did you ADD this user in the Novell SYSTEM?....where is this SYSTEM physically?....above in your post you say you have a W2K server running....is this a PDC...stand-alone box?

That may be OBVIOUS to you....but instead of using complicated jargon that not only confuses the reader but clearly shows you have NO clue of what you're talking about.....you mention NOTHING about where the NetWare server is....which would be a stand-alone machine somewhere in your network running Netware server side software....that you would LOG into from the XP stations....which DOMAIN are you logging into from the XP station?....you should have tabs on the Netware Client that show you the NT (W2k) domain AND the NetWare domain(although Novell refers to this as an NDS tree).....you create a userid with the same name on BOTH domains (TREE for NetWare) in order for your users to log in with a SINGLE userid, on such network configs...

Nothing you'll find there that the tech freaks here at Neowin can't help you with anyway....but its support.novell.com....lol....

Sometimes its better to keep your mouth closed and let people ASSUME you're an idiot....then to OPEN your mouth and REMOVE ALL DOUBTS....

hehe, thats why you use images :D, my uni uses novell, and we can't stand it, with thousands of students using it all at once - it really sucks, but for 7 clients it should be okay, I like the novell concept though - sorry i can't really assist you :[
