New iBook over my 15in PowerBook Ti?

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago I helped my friend pick out a new iBook and stuff for school. Well, yesterday she switches majors, and no longer needs the laptop, so she offered to sell it to me. It's only been used twice, so she wants basically what she payed for it.

It's the 12in model, 256mb RAM that came with it, she ordered another 256 from Crucial, 60gb HD, and that was it for the extras.

So I'm thinking of selling my 15in Ti PowerBook to my uncle if he is still interested in buying it. It's the 1ghz model, with 512mb SDRAM, 60gb Drive, Combo Drive, etc. So the iBook is faster, and the only thing I will be losing is the widescreen..

I'm just wondering if you guys think it would be worth it? I'm thinking that if I do get it, I'll hang onto it until this summer, sell it to my buddy who interested, and then get the new PowerBook with Tiger. So basically, win win for me either way. Just not sure its worth the hassle. What do you guys think?

Oh, she basically wants $1300 for it, and she is selling me her brand new Canon A75 with 128mb card, $1500 and both are mine.

Also, one more thing I forgot, a few months ago after the new iBooks came out, I actually ordered one, but cancled the order, but a few things didn't cancel, like the AppleCare for the iBook, which is basically the same as this one. So, would that warranty be transferable to this iBook? Basically I have a warranty for a laptop I don't even own atm.. go me... :pinch:

Thanks for the help.

I don't really think its worth the hassle. It doesn't seem like it would be that much faster, and you lose some screen space. If you think you could sell it for more than you could your tibook, then maybe that would be a benefit. But I dunno, I say just hold off until the new powerbooks in january and get one and then get tiger when that comes along.

if you are on the road alot or not near any plugs it might be worth it since they are the same specs pretty much...

you get more battery life out of the ibook... but transferring settings and files may be a hassle... depends if you have the time to do it all i guess

I am getting a new PB this summer after the new revisions are out as well as Tiger, so no big deal.. Hmm....I don't know what to do.

Don't give her $1300 when you can get one from Amazon for $899 shipped through the 18th...

I am NOT sure about this, but the Titanium PowerBook might be worth more than that iBook. So wait until the newer PB's come out later if you want and then sell the TiBook instead of getting the iBook now and selling the TiBook to your uncle.

But then again, I don't even have a Mac. ! :'(

So don't take my word for it. Please and thank you.

What's cpu speed?

If and only if I am you, I wouldn't change it, as the screen size (most importantly the resolution) of 12inch is not enough for anything

That's a biased statement right there.

Anyway, StealthMode: Stay with the Titanium PowerBook for now. Then if a newer PB comes out you should sell the Titanium PowerBook to either your godfather or whoever. :p I don't think I would want to "down"grade to an iBook, even if it were newer than the Titanium PowerBook.

Hmmm.

And look at me. I'm the guy who actually wants to get an iBook after Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger comes out. ! :D

    • Limited Prime Day deal sees Amazon Echo Show 11 is at its lowest price yet by Ivan Jenic The Amazon Echo Show 11 is currently $149.99 on Amazon during Prime Day, down from $219.99. That's 32% off and $70 saved on Amazon's newest mid-size smart display (purchase link below). As its name suggests, the Echo Show 11 features a 11” Full-HD touchscreen, which is a decent upgrade over the Echo Show 8. It offers 60% more viewing area, which makes a genuine difference for recipes, calendars, video calls, or any other scenario where the smaller display can feel a bit cramped. The Show 11 is built around Alexa+, Amazon's more capable AI assistant that can handle natural conversation. You can make reservations, order groceries, and find content based on your preferences, instead of always having to give it precise commands. There’s also the Omnisense technology, which adds ambient awareness, allowing the device to trigger routines based on temperature, presence detection, or visual cues. Smart home control is built in without needing a separate hub, and the home screen doubles as a photo slideshow when not in use. Taking all of this into account, the Show 11 is a perfect smart addition to your kitchen counter or living room. At $149.99, this is a strong Prime Day buy for anyone already in the Amazon ecosystem or looking to build one out. • Dang that sucks. I just started using this feature instead of Pushbullet.
    • I use my devices until the very end. I used my old desktop computer for 16 years, my OnePlus 5T phone for 8 years and my LG Gram laptop for 7 years. Even though they are still working, there are no more security updates for most of them (Windows 7 ESU, Android 12 ROM and the LG Gram because I wanted an ARM based laptop).
