Thats not true. I just know (from experience) that there are FAR better players out there for your money.

Read what the guy said about Apple being a brand name, not a computer company.

I wish I could afford a Powermac G5, but I can't.

"Apple, so cool we don't need customers"

Youre not the one to decide which is better. I have my own opinion and preferences and I still judge that the iPod is best for me. (based on money as well)

Being the owner of an iRiver, played with and borrowed a 3rd gen iPod (better than 4g) and a 4g iPod [both BEFORE discovering iRiver] I'm in a damn good position to vent my educated opinion.

Ah ha! Key word there...

Its all personal preference ladies. How are they "stealing your money". Its not like they are forcing you to buy their product in any way. And just because you own an iRiver doesnt take away the fact that someone else might like an iPod. Stop whining like little girls.

I agree with Timmah here. I mean as being someone who has researched about mp3 player for months in order to buy what really is what I'd be happy with for years to come, I think I also have at least the right to voice my education opinion onto others who maybe dont have the patience or time to do their research. For what you get, the iPod is overpriced. Face it, its a fact. Look around at other players. Lets use iRiver as an example. External and internal mic, optical line-in wires, remote, headphone adapter, all comes with the iriver. Already I can say that the mic and remote are about 40-50 bucks each for the ipod. Plus the SNR ratio being better than the ipod (though you may not care, I do. I've heard the difference).

You stay happy with your ipod, I'll stay happy with my iRiver. I saved tons of money by choosing the iRiver, and you cant deny it. If you want the accessories that came with the iRiver for your iPod, you'll be emptying you're wallet, meanwhile I paid only 20 bucks more than the iPod for mine.

The fact being that many people do not need those extra features. correct? Exactly. Preferences.

Regardless. Its nice to know that those features are there in the first place, and if you happened to want it for the ipod, you need to pay premium once again for it.

You missed out built in FM radio and better battery life for the iRiver ;)

585141616

Damn how could I have forgotten that... bah, thanks for reminding me :p

Perhaps we should get back on topic...

Anyway, I think they butchered the look of the iPod with this player, but hey, that's my opinion. In any case, it runs on SD/MMC/MS so it won't hold very much music. I don't like the flash-disk based players...

i would have thought that the point of an mp3 player was to play your mp3s and not listen to the radio because you can buy a radio for that anyway. i'm not talking about the iriver but players generally.

True but if you grow tired of your playlist, a radio station wont do much harm? Its the same concept as a ps2 or xbox. Why would you want dvd player capabilities when its a gaming console? You can always get a dvd player separately.

Also the fact that having a fm tuner built in is nice, instead of having a little toy in ur pocket just in case you want radio.

true but you know what they say - things that do one thing are generrally better than things that do many because they concentrate on making that one aspect better. like having a camera phone is not a replacement for a proper digital camera.

Yes, I actually use that argument in console debates, but in this case iRiver did it right. The sound quality is really kick ass.

All this is very true, except i got my 4th gen 40gig ipod for $300 (?150 here) which is amazingly cheap for what it is, so still in MY MIND the iriver isnt as good:))

Edit: Your right fubarshippy, i think it looks sorta weird, maybe its cos ive seen the ipod mini all this time:ss

Yeah well if you got the ipod for cheap then its fine, but for the advertised price, nope.

Unless I read the original post wrong, I believe this thread is about an iPod knock-off. It's not an iRiver vs. iPod thread.

585141779

Well its healthy to go offtopic sometimes, since it IS in general still "on topic" about mp3 player;) ;)

I can argue that, but I think we've had enough arguing for one day. ;) I'll just point out that basically mp3 players are the only thing Americans are lucky on, and that might even change soon that the levvy might be lifted as its "illegal".

WACUP 1.99.51.24568 Preview changelog: Fixed a deadlock seen from the recent crash reports when doing some of the drag + drop actions within the media library window Fixed a loading crash seen related to a problem with some of the artwork cache image files being restored which should now be better handled allowing for the bad image to be removed without it failing Fixed a deadlock seen from the recent crash reports when the internal metadata cache clearing is triggered which could block the main ui thread for too long with this now being moved to a background thread Fixed some performance issues with some of the methods related to determining artwork support which mainly affected the local library import / refresh (this is still slower for some compared to other players because there's more data & artwork aspects being checked for which means doing more processing on a single file despite the best of attempts to reduce duplicate / heavy processing where possible) Fixed a crash with the JTFE based missing files hotkey which no one seems to have used for an age for this to appear (maybe it's time to seriously consider stripping out features that aren't being used) Fixed how some of the file types which use extra information to reference their sub-songs is handled which was preventing some from being correctly resolved back to their base file (noticed fixing above) Fixed an issue with the handling of files with underscores in their filepath which wasn't being correctly handled causing some of the filename to be lost when shown as the title if title reading is delayed Fixed a few things that might be behind NotSoDirect not being stable for some setups though am still not certain that the changes done for this are going to fully resolve the problem from the crash reports Fixed the OS toast handling when there's no prior shortcut in the OS start menu to now create the shortcut (needed to allow the yes/no buttons for the new build / post-release toast) to be done as a hidden one so it's less likely to cause annoyance for those not wanting to see it whilst still allowing this less than ideal OS api implementation requirement to be met to avoid toasts without the needed buttons Fixed a regression when moving from taglib1 to taglib2 which broke some of the handling in place to allow for external programs to still access files when wacup has a held open cached instance of the file Everything else Updated cppwinrt (gen_win10shell.dll) to 3.0.260520.1 (26 May 2026) Updated libcurl (libcurl.dll) to 8.2.1 (24 Jun 2026) Updated Monkey's Audio (in_ape.dll) to 13.15 (28 Jun 2026) Updated mpg123 (mpg123.dll) to 1.33.6 (6 Jun 2026) Updated OpenSSL (libcurl.dll) to 3.5.7 (9 Jun 2026) Updated pugixml to 1.16 (16 Jun 2026) Updated taglib (tag2.dll) to 2.3.0 (11 May 2026) Updated vgmstream (in_vgmstream.dll) to the latest Git commit from 28 Jun 2026 Download: WACUP 64-bit | 9.6 MB (Freeware) Download: WACUP 32-bit View: WACUP Website | Screenshots Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
