Explorer.EXE - Application Error

Recommended Posts

Guys, I received a message everytime in startups Windows XP SP2.

Explorer.EXE - Application Error

The instruction at "0x734305be" referenced memory at "0x73430b5e". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate; click cancel for debug.

This errors messages will prompt out once in startup(the first time), then whatever program i click also it will prompt(the second time), after that it NEVER prompt again  , just like a normal window. It seems need to warmup??

Also, after I click on OK button the taskbar will disappear and reappearing with losing some icons compare to before desappearance.

Before this error occurs i was using giant antispyware for scanning, maybe i did something wrong during that moment?? Hopefully not...

Please help me out here, I have a presentation using my current error-occuring laptop the day after tomorrow!!!!

Regards,

Eric

Okay solvable, i think after remove the spybot v1.4 beta and coz this problem, or maybe using Giant Spyware scanning "too deeply" till some of the system file consider as spyware??(some crackz for full version that one). What's ur opinion?

My Explorer.exe application error just occurs when startup, after running for 5 minutes it will not prompts up again, just like a normal winxp, i think is the startup problem.

My startup is fine. I get the error when I right click on a icon on my desktop.

  • 2 weeks later...

I arrived at this post after a similar problem on XP SP2.

Whenever I accessed a particular directory I would get an

Explorer.exe Application error "the memory in xxxxxxxx (Didn't write it down) could not be read." Same problem occured if I tried to view the same directory after copying it to another partition.

It looks like I had a permissions problem.

I disabled simple filing sharing in Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > view menu then re - enabled it again and the problem has gone away.

Worth a try if anybody has a similar issue.

I'm having a similar problem, but disabling/enabling simple file sharing did not solve it.

When I right click on a file or folder in My Computer or Windows Explorer, I receive this error message:

"Explorer.EXE - Application Error

The instruction at "0x7c80d189" referenced memory at "0x00ecffff". The memory could not be 'read.' Click on OK to terminate the program/ Click on CANCEL to debug the program."

When I click cancel, my computer either freezes, or I receive the following message:

DrWatson Postmortem Debugger

"DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information y ou were working on might be lost.

P8: c0000409 P9:00000000"

I haven't been able to find a successful solutin. If anyone can help, I'd really appreicate it.

Thanks.

ren12 - there is something in your right-click context menu that is crashing explorer. you can get rid of the problem by unistalling the offending program (difficult b/c you don't know which one is causing it) or remove it manually

    • There is a lot of reasons not to use Edge but faster fixes and security updates is not one of them.
    • Can't reproduce. I installed Edge, went to neowin.net > accepted the cookie consent > used menu to go to forums, everything loads and I can browse around the forums. If you can't interact with the dialog on the forums for some reason, go to the main site and accept the cookie consent there? It is true that the site will not function properly until the cookie consent is accepted or rejected,. it's a legal requirement and I also know that certain VPN/ad blockers block it, which is a user related issue and not a neowin.net problem.   This is not our cookie consent dialog. Gotta love browser hijacking... /s Edit: this may be what Californians see, I will confirm with our consent provider.
