Guess what guys!! I got the z-5500 speakers last week.  The one i got is the newer version of z-5500.  The wires are exactly the same as z-680.  Each speakers have its own red and black jack on the back and so as the subwoofer.  NO MORE PREWIRE or BUILT IN WIRE SPEAKERS. I guess logitech has alot of complaints about the wires on  the z-5500.  That is why, they changed it. If you guys got the older version and you dont like the built in wire speaker, maybe you guys should sell it on ebay..

holy crap, logitech is genius!

the z680s have ungodly amount of whitenoise too.. it sucks ass.

well I had the z680's and I currenty have the z5500 and having the wires built in doesnt really make difference..sure it just means u cant cut to ur own lenght but they give u more then enough. If u want more just get an extention on to it.

okay peeps,

How often are u really going to be moving ur speakes once u set them up?

Like some1 said, the front come with 20FT and the back ones come with 25FT wires, long enought for any room and if u need more u can always get the extension. I would find it more troublesome having to cut my wire every time I move my speakers and stuff. Having the wires separate from the speakers makes no diff in my books.

The Z5500 kick a$$!!!!........... now back to waking up the dead :p

Hey guys, just so you know the Z-5500s now come with the same detachable wire as the Z-680s. I just got my new 5500s in from Dell earlier this week and as a couple of others reported over in Reviews for Members, they do indeed have the spring-clips on the back of each speaker. So hold back your purchases no more ;)

Yeah, but the ones at JustDeals are refurbs, and their customer rating isn't all that great either. Buying new Z-680s would be about as much as the 5500s.

So what it was a long time ago?

we still read them. I do anyways.

Remember all those forum posts you find when you google a tech topic?

did they think that you would be reading their post after 6 years when they posted it?

    • Apple sues OpenAI, alleging former employees stole trade secrets for AI hardware development by Pradeep Viswanathan Back in 2024, Jony Ive created a new startup called io to explore hardware designs for the AI world and also began working with OpenAI. Later in 2024, OpenAI's startup fund made an investment in io and subsequently increased its stake to own about 23% of the hardware startup. In May 2025, OpenAI acquired Ive's io in a $6.5 billion all-stock deal. At the time of the acquisition, io had around 55 engineers, scientists, researchers, physicists, and product development specialists. Today, Apple filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and two former employees in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, accusing them of stealing confidential information and trade secrets to support OpenAI’s consumer hardware. The two former Apple employees named in the lawsuit are Chang Liu and Tang Yew Tan. Apple claims Liu, a former senior system electrical engineer who joined OpenAI in January 2026, retained an Apple-issued laptop and later exploited an authentication bug to access the company’s internal systems. According to the complaint, Liu downloaded dozens of confidential hardware files, including information about unreleased products, technical specifications, engineering presentations, and proprietary project data. Apple also targets Tang Yew Tan, who spent 24 years at Apple and previously served as vice president of product design for the iPhone and Apple Watch. Notably, Tan is now OpenAI’s chief hardware officer. Apple claims that Tan used confidential information while recruiting Apple employees and instructed some candidates to bring physical components, CAD files, design materials, and prototypes to OpenAI interviews. The company stated in its lawsuit that OpenAI used these interviews to obtain details about Apple’s component selection, engineering processes, suppliers, and manufacturing methods. Apple further alleges that OpenAI used its confidential information when approaching manufacturing partners, including asking one partner to perform a proprietary metal-finishing technique. When Apple tried to connect with OpenAI in February to raise concerns and request an investigation into this alleged IP and trade secret theft, it received no response. OpenAI provided the following statement in response to Apple's lawsuit: Apple is now asking the court to prevent OpenAI from using or disclosing its trade secrets, require the return of Apple property, and award compensatory damages.
    • I hope they do NOT move to Unreal Engine... DOOM games look epic and there are no stutters, crashes and the usual Unreal games drama.
