Hi, I'm trying to update the drivers to a certain device on Windows XP Pro, and it shows the progress of the drivers being installed and everything, but when it's done it says there was an error installing the device with the message "The class installer has denied any request to install or update drivers for this device," or something to that effect?

How do I get by it?

Thanks.

The EXACT message, would be nice, not a sorta rememberance to what you saw :), recreate the message, and then post it word for word, and just like Keldyn stated, tell us what piece of hardware you're dealing with.

Thanks for your replies.

I'm dealing with a Kensington VideoCAM. That's the exact name of it. Anyways, the message says:

"There was a problem installing this hardware:

CABO II

The class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device."

My user account type is Computer Administrator, not sure if that's enough or not.

here's your answer...

The PC Camera and Digital Photo Album product lines have been discontinued.

These products are no longer available for purchase through the Kensington online store.

The Digital Photo Album and the Digital Photo Album Plus may still be available through PCnation.com or Frontgate.com

Already own a Digital Photo Album or VideoCAM?

Visit technical support for answers to your questions.

Kensington Cameras have been discontinued, and have No Support for Windows 2000 or XP.

here is even more poison to your problem

http://kensington.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ken...hZ2U9MQ**&p_li=

you're getting that message becuase i believe your attempting to install drivers that are NOT Complaint with XP and the system is blocking them, for stability reasons.

Better go get a new camera, sorry to say. :(

I suggest a Logitech.

you can only use Windows 98 Drivers, IF and Only IF they're WDM, and these are not. sorry, go get a new camera, or DUAL BOOT and use your camera in 9x.

there is a chance you could get it to work if you follow this

Windows 2000

We began development on Windows 2000 drivers for use with our camera, but unfortunately ran into some hardware problems. In order to even use the camera you must install the camera and have it functional on a Windows 98/ME machine to update the camera?s firmware. Due to the problems encountered, the driver development for the camera line in Windows 2000 was terminatedWe did however develop beta drivers to use on our cameras but they were not and will not become a finished released product. b>for customers that choose to test them, they are available. The problem is that they are for use at your own risk and will not be supported by technical support by email or phone. Some customers have had success others have not. If you do choose to try them you can download them, the readme file and instructions from the link below. Once they are downloaded and in use the camera is no longer able to run on any other machine other than the Windows 2000 operating system. The user assumes all responsibility for their use and interaction.

there are 2 or 3 files in their FTP Site, that could make it at least 2000 complaint which could get you somewhere, but you need to be in 95/98 to update the firmware.

start here>>ftp://ftp.kensington.com/pc/imaging

you could try this, or get a new camera. if you can get the camera to at least 2000 status, you could have a chance to install it on XP. because most 2000 drivers, work on XP as well.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have just looked on this ftp site and downloaded the file VC2000.zip. In it, there is the driver and firmware update together with a readme file in three formats.

Because this is a Win2000 driver, I would advise creating a restore point just in case WinXP does not automatically create one and the drivers cause any problems.

    • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!
    • Same, never saw it on Android or iOS. Guess only some people got it *shrugs*
    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.
