firefox wont load some pictures (like preview thumbnails) from some sites. I've also had trouble connecting to download some plugins. I tried reinstalling but still the same problem. what should I do?

I just went to www.wincustomize.com and now no images showed up. not even the logo image. yesterday everything showed up except for the thumbnail previews

press shift and click the refresh button (or hit F5), this will discard the cache for the site you are viewing, and reload everything. see if that works

Nothing. Now not only will it not load images, it has trouble connecting to download plugins

I know it sounds funny, but do you have 'Show Images' turned off or is it on only certain sites?

I think I got it turn on...

I think its just for some sites because Neowin shows up fine like some other sites.

un-check "for the originating web site only" and see if that works :)

Well we got 1 problem down...

If you look at where the thumbnail previews should be there's only a little white box

Im going to try it on another brower (Maxthon) and show you a screenshot to compare

Are you running any extensions that could be interfering with image loading such as Adblock?

Have you modified your userContent.css file?

Are you using a proxy?

Do you have any other software which may be blocking images (proximatron, etc)?

I dont have any extensions in Firefox but I have ZoneAlarm Pro. does that block out pictures on some sites?

whats userContent.css? do I have to modify it in some way?

or

Some servers may have problems with these settings enabled.

I remember accessing this screen once. I did something but I forgot what. maybe thats why its screwed up. should the network.http.pipelining = true (because its currently set to false). So is network.http.proxy.pipelining (=false)

Having it on False is fine.

Hmm, mind going to your Application Data directory, and moving the entire Mozilla folder to your desktop, then restart Firefox and see if its any different?

To restore your previous settings, just delete the newly created folder in Application Data, and move the old one back from your desktop.

in about:config the settings which are bold mean that you have edited them in some way or another... take a screenshot (for backup purposes) and change them back to defaults and try the site again

C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name here>\Application Data

Go there and move the Mozilla folder to another location.

that will make firefox revert to default settings.

If this fixes the problem (It probably will) You'll more than likely have to reinstall extentions

That mozilla folder holds all of your settings, there's a few key files you may want to save: bookmarks.html prefs.js user.js signons.txt usercontent.css

Should I just uninstall and delete everything I can find about Firefox including the registry then reinstall? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but never tried deleting the registry in RegEdit. Will that work?

There are very few registry entries. {edit}I take it back there are quite a few, but then again I have thunderbird too, I wouldn't recommend editting the registry unless you're absolutely sure you know what you're doing.

You could try reinstalling. Uninstall it then delete the mozilla folder mentioned earlier because firefox doesn't do that (that should be a question during uninstall, it's been bugging me for a while.)

You may want to save those files I listed earlier...probably just the bookmarks one.

Tried it. Still nothing. Even deleted everything about Mozilla in the registry....I really dont want to give up Firefox for this.

I had the problem, too, with images being broken on many sites, even with Firefox 1.0 final. They fixed it in the nightly builds in the meanwhile :)

Surf to this site from time to time, if you don't want to wait for FF 1.1
