iPod + dead hard drive = ?

Recommended Posts

No, the hard drive in my iPod didn't crash or anything but the drive on my computer with all of my mp3s did die a horrendous death few weeks ago.

My question is: where do I go from here? I've been afraid to connect the iPod to my computer and loading iTunes because it's on auto-sync and when the iPod doesn't find the local files it will start to automatically wipe out my iPod, no?

I want to make it so I can add new playlists but I don't want iTunes to touch the existing files on my iPod. Should I switch to Anapod Explorer or something else? Eventually I want to get a new hard drive and copy the songs from my iPod over to the new drive so that at least I have some of my collection back (a mere 10% of it actually :( )

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Uninstal iTunes. Duh :p

For PC open up your iPod in my computer and unhide all files and directories

you'll see a folder called "IPOD_CONTROL" all your music is in there

I knew this much but I kinda wanted to continue using iTunes.

Will ephPod screw up my iTunes compatibility?

He just meant to uninstall it temporarily to prevent it from syncing. Back up all your music, then reinstall iTunes

..at least thats what i thought

man.. i swear......

Uninstall iTunes temporaryly so it doesn't resynch and delete all your ****!

Then after you remove all your crap for IPOD_CONTROL reinstall iTunes.

DUHHHHHH

The same kind of thing hapenned to me about a month ago. All I did was when I had the HDD back up and running fine with a fresh copy of Windows I used ephpod to get all the music off and then installed iTunes.

The only problem with copying the 'IPOD_CONTROL' directory is that all the MP3's are in weird dir's.

I recommend ephPod.
